Yunte Huang at LA Times Festival of Books

I see author Yunte Huang spoke at the LA Times Festival of Books and chose to give credence to the rumor that Warner Oland was a good Chan because his alcoholism caused his speech to slow down and "slur". Are we watching the same films? To say nothing of the fact that Oland's appearances in other classic films at the same time he was making Chans prove he was a superb actor...one who had a lengthy stage career before he went into films. He made fifty silents before he successfully transitioned to sound, making another fifty films, many of them classics. One need only look at his career to realize this persistent rumor about the cause of his speech patterns when portraying Chan is insidious and an insult to a very talented man. Finally, Mr. Oland was presenting the Chan that Biggers created in his books. Mr. Yuang needs to do a little more homework and abstain from spreading rumors about someone who cannot defend himself.
