Poll Results: Keye Luke's Birthday Film

During our Chan Chat Room gathering on Monday, May 2nd, we took a poll regarding which film to view for the Keye Luke birthday party. Here are the results:

"Charlie Chan at the Olympics" - no votes.
"The Green Hornet" (1940) - four votes.
"Phantom of Chinatown" - five votes.

It appears that "Phantom of Chinatown" is the selected film to be viewed for our Keye Luke Birthday Party. The screening date is: Monday, June 13th.

Rush, would you kindly update the June schedule to reflect the film change? Thanks.

WHICH DVD SET TO PURCHASE? I recommend the following DVD set to purchase: "Mr. Wong Detective, The Complete Collection" from VCI Entertainment, 2008.

This DVD set has all six Wong films, including "Phantom of Chinatown" (1940) starring Keye Luke. This is the collection that has Boris Karloff's face, in an orange tint, on the cover.

Cost: $14.99 new DVD, $10.00 used DVD, from Amazon.com.
Cost: $15.21 new, from Deep Discount.com.
Cost: $3.99 new, ONLY-Phantom of Chinatown-ONLY, from Oldies.com. Sale price ends on May 31, 2011.

Near the end of the year, we will view two other Mr. Wong movies from the VCI Entertainment collection.

Don't forget that we will celebrate Keye Luke's birthday on Monday, June 13th with a screening of "Phantom of Chinatown" (1940). Please consider placing your order ASAP.

Thank you "family" for your input. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to ask me. Thank you so much.

Re: Poll Results: Keye Luke's Birthday Film

I just ordered the 6-DVD "Mr. Wong" set from Amazon. It was a little more pricey, but I thought it preferable to the evidently single DVD containing all six adventures which is less expensive. The latter, however, does contain some extras that the former set does not, and the reviews from buyers reveals its good qualitiy.

As Steve notes, we will be viewing other adventures from this collection later on, and we will be comparing them to the Chan versions!

Thank you so much, Steve, for your very helpful recommendations...

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

I just saw on Amazon that if you are a PRIME MEMBER (you pay a yearly fee for shipping) then you can stream the Wong movies legally and free! Not a bad deal if you order from Amazon a lot.
