Please join us for this week’s Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing as we watch and discuss “Black Magic” (also known as “Meeting at Midnight,” starring Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan. In this adventure, Mr. Chan is joined by another daughter, Frances (played by Frances Chan), who goes from a participant at a séance to a “person of interest” in a resulting murder. Who is behind the very strange killing of William Bonner, and what is the answer to the question, “What happened on the night of October 5th, 1935?”

One question I wanted to ask but forgot: why was this movie called "Meeting at Midnight"? Did any of the seances occur at midnight? Black Magic seemed like a much more fitting title though.

My understanding is that it was retitled once it was re-released for television market. I enjoy the extra title as a collector of Chan stuff

Ah, cool. I know what you mean. Just curious as to why they chose that name over Black Magic when re-releasing it. I need to start collecting CC stuff also!
