It's truely a shame when people refuse to watch a movie just because it's old or black and white. I just keep telling myself it's their loss. They truely are losing out on some good movies and good stories.
I have a great appreciation for any movie that's fun to watch, creative, and that's well written.
I've been trying to get many people I know to open their eyes to some of the more older movies and tv shows. Unfortunately I've failed quite often. Many people just tell me point-blank, they don't like b&w movies. It's a bit frustrating but what can you do?
Sometimes I think I'm just unusual in that, while I believe Hollywood can produce some good movies these days, I usually prefer the older movies than newer ones. I hardly watch tv these days, but I love the classic tv shows from the 60s and 70s, shows like F-Troop, Get Smart, Gilligan's Island, and so on. However, this is because when I was a kid I was an insomniac who stayed up and watched Nick-at-Nite in the 80s and early 90s (back when they actually played classic tv shows). It shocks me, though, when I talk to someone that doesn't know any of these shows or doesn't know who Charlie Chan is.
I say keep these classics, both movies and tv shows, alive and in the minds of those today. Hopefully people will continue to discover the classics and they will always live on
Yes, unfortunately it's true....many don't watch the B & W just because of no color. Many films today are mindless, action films which those out there enjoy. I myself enjoy a plot which makes you think.
Sometimes I think it's just the way their minds are wired, like being left-handed . . . the rest . . . it can be a joke because they can sometimes think that I won't watch anything made after FDR was elected!
Virginia, loved your quote about FDR. I think my husband is that way about mysteries (I, however, will watch late '40s noir). He does like his '50s SciFi, though, prefering the B&W ones of those.
P.S. "My" Aunt Battie found three short articles from a Shanghai newspaper that are on my home page, which brings up the question: Which Chan films at least mentions Shanghai, beyond the obvious choices?!--VA
