Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Docks of New Orleans"

Our film for this week’s Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing feature is “Docks of New Orleans,” which stars Roland Winters in his second picture as Detective Charlie Chan. This adventure finds Chan in the city of New Orleans on what seems to be something of a fairly lengthy stay away from his new home base in San Francisco. This lends more kindling to the fires of our imaginations as to why Mr. Chan, neither working any longer for the U.S. Secret Service since war’s end would not move back to his home on Punchbowl Hill in Honolulu. This, coupled with the change in Number Two Son’s name from Jimmy to Tommy as well as the lack of any further reference to Charlie’s beloved wife back home, provides the material for much speculation!

All conjecture aside, in Docks of New Orleans,” we see Charlie Chan, aided by Number Two Son, Tommy and assistant Birmingham Brown, track down a mysterious and ruthless gang of international smugglers. As we view “Docks of New Orleans,” please keep in mind the major plot elements and see how our film for December 3, “Mr. Wong, Detective,” bears an uncanny resemblance!

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located HERE at our Charlie Chan Family Home. Please use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 30 minutes later.

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. (Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc., although of late, the number has decreased markedly due, understandably, to copyright issues. Sadly, a check just now reveals that “Docvks of New Orleans” is NOT available at YouTube…)

Thank you so much, and let’s meet for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch “Docks of New Orleans.”

(PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to receive weekly email announcements regarding our Monday Evening Chats, as well as receive high-quality scanned movie still images (one per week) from our films of the week, please email us at: charliechanfamily@yahoo.com.)

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
