Warner Oland in Shanghai - 1936

Short newsreel clip, but very worthy! Take a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U-MtQ6MIaY

Re: Warner Oland in Shanghai - 1936

Dear Rush,

The title given to this YouTube film clip is: "1936 Shanghai - Actor Walter Oland (Charlie Chan) in China." Who knew that Warner Oland had a brother named Walter, who also played Charlie Chan in the movies!!! LOL!!!

Actually, the film clip is an important part of Chan/Oland history, from a Universal Pictures newsreel, circa 1936.

As we all know, the Olands left Los Angeles, by a cruise ship, on February 20, 1936, on their first leg of their journey to China. On February 26th, they stopped in Honolulu, for one day, and exchanged ships, continuing on to Japan.

Finally, on March 22nd, the Olands arrived in Shanghai, China. Besides being greeted by newsreel cameras, they received a warm welcome from the people of Shanghai, who accept Warner Oland, not Walter, as one of their own.

Mahalo for the interesting Chan/Oland posting.
