TYSM to those who gave advice on things to see in Honolulu re: CC.
Spent a wonderful evening with Hawaii Steve, walking Waikiki Beach to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and checking out where the various shots for Black Camel took place -- the only Chan film actually shot in Hawaii. Steve is a veritable walking wikipedia of knowledge and research on the subject and we had a great time. Then up to Manoa Chinese Cemetary for a visit to Chang Apana's grave ... and over to Punchbowl Hill for a drive along Prospect Street where a CC home would've been back when.
Honolulu has changed a lot since early 1930's.... but we are actually living over on the Big Island (Hawaii) near Hilo which is an older funkier town, much like Waikiki in the 30's, so lots of CC flavor.
If you get this way... Hawaii Steve is THE MAN to talk to.

Visiting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and seeing the sites where Oland and Lugosi stood, is quite the thrill. Even with the renovations to the hotel, one can still see the film sites from "The Black Camel" (1931). It's only 82 years ago that the film was shot in Waikiki.
Glad you had a chance to visit the Manoa Chinese Cemetery and "talk story" with the late, great detective Chang Apana. After 80 + years, it it nice to know that people still care about Apana and Chan.
