This week's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"

This week, as well as next week, we will be taking a slight detour as we make our way together through the entire Charlie Chan film series. Our Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing session for this week will feature two episodes from “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan.” This very worthy 1957 television crime drama stars J. Carrol Naish as Charlie Chan and features James Hong as Number One Son, Barry inmost of the 39 adventures. Our two featured episodes will be “The Secret of the Sea” and “Death of a Don.”

“The Secret of the Sea” brings us two veterans from the Charlie Chan film series. First we have Phillip Ahn, who portrayed the husband of Number One Daughter, Ling, in “Charlie Chan in Honolulu,” and later appearing as Captain Kong in “The Chinese Ring.” Next, and he is on screen for only about a minute, so look quickly, we have Victor Sen Yung who was Number Two Son to both Sidney toler and Roland Winters. Of course, J. Carrol Naish himself was Gangor the Snake Charmer in “Charlie Chan at the Circus” with Warner Oland as Chan! So, in this adventure, we have THREE veterans of the Charlie Chan film series.

Please note that BOTH “The Secret of the Sea” and “Death of a Don” are available currently at YouTube for viewing! Please search under the title: “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan.”

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. (Many of our films, such as this week’s entries, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc. Again this week we have HAPPY NEWS! A check at YouTube reveals that BOTH of our adventures are available online at YouTube for viewing.)

NEXT WEEK we will be viewing “Phantom of Chinatown,” starring Keye Luke as Mr. Wong as we celebrate the birthday of our Number One Son! This was the only film in which Keye Luke held the starring role.

Thank you so much, and let’s meet for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch “The Secret of the Sea” and “Death of a Don.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

Re: This week's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"

Can anyone tell me what you think of the NEW ADVENTURES OF CHARLIE CHAN television series, starring J. Carrol Naish DVD boxed set available on Amazon.com. I saw it and am considering it as a replacement to the gray market sleeved set I bought some years back.
