Tonight's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise"

Greetings, as summer is now in full swing. I hope that most of you are able to have some restful moments as the weather warms and beaches, rivers, or lakes beckon.

Our film for tonight’s Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing will be “Charlie Chan’s Murder Cruise,” as we continue or journey through the entire Charlie Chan film series proper. In this adventure, Charlie Chan and Number Two Son, Jimmy, track an elusive killer who stalks a group of world travelers. Can the murderer be found before the “murder cruise” ends?

NOTES: The working titles for “Charlie Chan’s Murder Cruise” were several: “Charlie Chan’s Cruise,” “Charlie Chan’s Oriental Cruise,” and “Chan’s Murder Cruise.” This picture was a “remake” of the first film in the Fox Chan series, “Charlie Chan Carries On,” from 1931 (“Eran Trece” - “There Were Thirteen”- was the Spanish language version of this film, also from 1931). The original story that formed the basis of all of these films was “Charlie Chan Carries On” by Earl Derr Biggers. Layne Tom, Jr. appears as Chan son, Willie, his third and final portrayal of a Chan son in the series.

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. (Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc. Again this week we have HAPPY NEWS! A check at YouTube reveals that “Charlie Chan’s Murder Cruise” IS available online at YouTube for viewing.)

NEXT WEEK we will be viewing “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum,” starring Sidney Toler.

ONE MORE NOTE: “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum” will be screened at the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo, California during the weekend of July 19-21. Anyone interested in attending a Charlie Chan Family evening or matinee, please express your thoughts and we can, perhaps, come up with a plan…

Thank you so much, and let’s meet for yet another fun Monday evening as we gather to watch “Charlie Chan’s Murder Cruise.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
