You are really in for a treat when you return from your trip! The quality of the films in this latest DVD set is unsurpassed. Please compare any previous "gray market" copy of "Shadows Over Chinatown" with the version that we now have. That alone is worth the price of the full box set!

I got the box set on Friday and managed to watch all 4 films between Friday evening and this evening.
In a word: spectacular!
SHADOWS does look very good and I think the three Winters look even better. I couldn't believe how defect-free these 4 films were. No scratches, slices, etc. Just some (very) infrequent white speckles. Even the opening credits look original and not a replacement kind. The picture is very detailed and clear. Night and day from the dupey 16mm copies we've put up with years.
Just as the previous volume enhanced my enjoyment of these films; this volume did as well. DOCKS is a good film even though the mystery is quite easy to solve. The other three are pretty decent mysteries and even though they don't have the Fox production standards, they are quite pleasing especially with Mantan Moreland and Tim Ryan in support.
Hopefully this set does well and Warner can finish off the last 3 films sooner rather than later. Then we will have, after several decades into the home video era, the complete Chan on DVD.

You stated it far better than I ever could! Watching these films, I feel that we are seeing them for the first time with the same clarity present when first released. As you note, we became accustomed to an inferior product for decades now. We only lack "The Red Dragon," "Sky Dragon," and "The Feathered Serpent" to have the entire Chan series catalogue (less the four "lost" films) available on authorized, commercially produced, crystal clear products.
(For those who have not as yet purchased this great collection, please do yourselves a favor and do so!)

Got my set from Amazon a couple days ago. Have watched them all. They are Excellent and the Picture Quality is Awesome. I would highly recommend this collection as well as all of the other collections to all Chan Fans as well as new comers to Charlie Chan The Detective.

I am so pleased with all of the great feedback regarding this DVD set. Of course, I fully agree with your observations. Now, perhaps, we can reasonably hope that the final three Monograms will be issued sometime in the future...

Picture quality looks great......can finally see what happens in "the golden eye".....looks like a good transfer rather than a full restoration.....waiting for the set to be complete with the final 3. Also they could have used rush for some commentary track on these....would have been nice.....overall great to see new product out.

What I would like to see as extras on a release of the "final three" would be theatrical trailers for some of the Monograms, at least those from the Warner Brothers collections. Also, I feel it would be fun to include "The Black Camel," complete with the FULL exit music (which was sadly cut short - why? - on the 20th Century-Fox DVD release). WB holds the U.S./Canadian distribution rights to that one.
However, even without "extras" which we have all become accustomed to having these days, I feel that we are so very fortunate to have nearly ALL existing Charlie Chan movies from the series proper available in such great condition on authorized, commercially produced DVD sets.

Just finished viewing the entire new set. WONDERFUL... like seeing totally new films... crisp, sharp, dark murky stuff from previous gray-market copies gone.... really a remarkable difference well worth the cost.
