As Charlie Chan has said, “Patience and a mulberry leaf become a silk shawl.” It took about three years for Warner Brothers to release the present “Charlie Chan Collection following the successful Warner/TCM box set from 2010. A major factor was the fact that the locating of a suitable print for at least a couple of the next four films was extremely difficult. In the end, WB probably needed to do more digital remastering than they had originally planned.
For us to have the final there Chan films from their collection released may follow a similar process. However, a key factor in the equation will be the need for sales of the DVD set that was released last month to warrant the consideration of one more set of Chan films. To sum it up, all Charlie Chan fans need to do what we can to help boost the sales numbers. Great gift idea, perhaps, for friends and family members!
I'm dying to get THE SKY DRAGON on a DVD. The VHS tape I have is full of splices and the sound quality is Grade C. Just wondering: did the Chan cast and crew know that this was going to be the last film?
No they didn't. In fact Keye Luke and Roland Winters were slated to make more films, due to funding from a company in England. However that fell through and that was the end of the Chan series. It was great that Keye Luke was back for the final two, but does anyone know why Victor Sen Yung was not in the last film?
