Tonight's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Docks of New Orleans"

Early Thanksgiving and Hanukkah greetings!

This week’s Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing returns us to our journey through the remaining stages of our trip together through the Charlie Chan film series proper. Tonight, with “Docks of New Orleans,” we pay a visit with Charlie Chan and company to the city of New Orleans as we encounter another case of murder with a heavy dose of intrigue. “Docks of New Orleans” was the second of the Roland Winters

Please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

FILM NOTES: The film's title card reads: “Charlie Chan in ‘Docks of New Orleans’". Despite the title, the docks are seem only briefly during the credit titles, and, during the opening scene of the film, they are suggested as the ship ‘Presidente’ is being loaded through a cargo door with chemicals from the Lafontanne Chemical Company. Although not acknowledged in the onscreen credits, the film's story was derived from Monogram's 1938 picture, “Mr. Wong, Detective” (our "comparison" film for next week). The working title for this movie was “Charlie Chan in New Orleans.”

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc. SAD NEWS, however…this week’s film, “Docks of New Orleans,” IS NOT available at YouTube… Son please dust off your old VHS tape.

THIS WEEK’S FILM STILL: (Please see attachment) Shows Charlie Chan revealing his Number Two Son, Tommy (yes, that’s Jimmy), who was listening in, to Mr. LaFontanne.

NEXT WEEK (December 2) we will viewing of “Mr. Wong, Detective,” starring Boris Karloff in the film that provided the plot for this week’s movie, “Docks of New Orleans.”

A CONTINUED HUMBLE REMINDER: If you have not already done so, please consider ordering your copy of the new “Charlie Chan Collection” Warner Brothers box DVD collection! The best price I have found thus far is from Amazon.com at $28.79 with FREE postage! Hawaii Steve notes that this collection may be purchased at Oldies.com for $21.80 plus postage! So, get yours now!

Please take care, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for another Chan-filled evening of fun and sharing as we watch “Docks of New Orleans.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
