Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The Feathered Serpent"

Wow! Christmas is nearly here! Just two stops left on our journey through the Charlie Chan film series.

This week, our Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing will feature “The Feathered Serpent,” starring Roland Winters as Charlie Chan. This adventure has Charlie Chan, Number Two Son, Tommy, and assistant Birmingham Brown, as well as Number One Son, Lee, whose last appearance was back in “Mr. Moto’s Gamble,” the film that was supposed to have been ”Charlie Chan at the Ringside.” Now, a decade later in this adventure, Father, sons numbers one and two, and assistant Birmingham Brown work together to solve the disappearance of two noted archaeologists who had been searching for a lost Aztec tomb in Mexico.

Please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

FILM NOTES: The opening title card of this film reads: “Charlie Chan in ‘The Feathered Serpent’.” This is the only film in which Charlie Chan's number one and number two sons actively work together with their father on a case. It is also the final appearance in a Charlie Chan film by Victor Sen Yung (Sen Yung), although he makes a very brief appearance in one episode of “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” 1957 television crime drama series in a non-Chan-son role. The plot of this film was based on that of the 1937 movie, “The Riders of the Whistling Skull” (which, interestingly, featured Robert Livingston who later appeared as John Stanley in the Charlie Chan version).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc. However, SAD NEWS…this week’s film, “The Feathered Serpent,” IS NOT available at YouTube…

NEXT WEEK (December 30) we will viewing of “The Sky Dragon,” starring Roland Winters with Mantan Moreland, and…KEYE LUKE!

A CONTINUED HUMBLE REMINDER: If you have not already done so, please consider ordering your copy of the new “Charlie Chan Collection” Warner Brothers box DVD collection! The best price I have found thus far is from Amazon.com at $28.79 with FREE postage! So, if you have not done so yet, please get yours now!

A NEW CHARLIE CHAN BOOK: “The Charlie Chan Mystery Movie Guide” by Luke Freemen, who attended last week’s Chat, is available at a list price of $16.99 (and less via Amazon.com). Please read our description of this new Chan entry at our Entrance page at www.charliechan.info.

Please take care, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for another Chan-filled evening of fun and sharing as we watch “The Feathered Serpent.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
