Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Eran Trece"

Tonight (Monday), we continue the journey we began last week as we make our way through the entire Charlie Chan film series and see some “bonus” sights along the way as we make our way through 2014.

This evening we will be watching "Eran Trece" ("There Were Thirteen") the Spanish Language version of the first film in the Charlie Chan film series proper, "Charlie Chan Carries On", which, of course, starred Warner Oland. Eran Trece, starring Manuel Arbo, was filmed after "Charlie Chan Carries On." When comparing it to the script (an illustrated version of which can be found at www.charliechan.info ) for this film, now sadly lost, it can be seen that this picture very closely mirrors the Oland version. One major difference is seen in the party scene aboard ship toward the end of the film. In Eran Trece, Max Minchin, the Chicago gangster, shows a lighter side of his personality as he performs musical numbers with his wife, Peggy (called "Sadie" in "Charlie Chan Carries On"), at the piano!

On something of a side note, if one looks at the bilingual script for Eran Trece, it is seen that the breakfast scene with Charlie Chan and his entire family which we see in The Black Camel was originally set to be included in "Eran Trece" but was, in the end, left out.

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the "Chat Room" links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are always offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc. HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film IS available at YouTube at this address: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=eran+trece&sm=12

Please take care, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for this year’s first Chan-filled evening of fun and sharing as we watch "Eran Trece."

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
