Our Monday evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan in City in Darkness"

“Confucius has said, ‘A wise man question himself, a fool others.’” – Charlie Chan

It has been 20 years since the end of the Great War, the “War to End All Wars,” and Charlie Chan is in Paris, meeting with his former Intelligence service comrades to mark the occasion as another major conflict looms ominously on the horizon. As the City of Light darkens, murder is in the air, and suspects abound!

Please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing through such outlets as YouTube, etc. HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “Charlie Chan in City in Darkness,” IS available at YouTube! Here is the address:

FILM NOTES: The newsreel-like beginning of this film give an accurate view of fast-breaking events of the time, including a short list of the leaders of the most effected nations.

NEXT WEEK (June 2) we will be sharing “Charlie Chan in Panama” starring Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan and Victor Sen Yung as Number Two Son, Jimmy.

“THE RETURN OF CHARLIE CHAN” ON DVD: If you are interested in purchasing a clear, clean copy of “The Return of Charlie Chan” (Universal – 1971) a made-for-TV movie starring Ross Martin as Charlie Chan, I can recommend a version which you will find at: http://www.ioffer.com/i/the-return-of-charlie-chan-ross-martin-dvd-504052734. It lists for $14.99 which includes postage/handling. However, you may make a lower offer!

Please take care, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for another Chan-filled evening of fun and sharing as we watch “Charlie Chan in City in Darkness.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick

Re: Our Monday evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan in City in Darkness"

Dear Rush, humble apologies for not being there yesterday (again), but wanted to mention a little factoid regarding your quote from this weeks feature:

"Confucius has said, "A wise man question himself, a fool others."

The quote was taken from one of the novels, but reversed. Here's the quote from Behind That Curtain, 1928, Chapter 16. It was spoke by Charlie in response to Captain Flannery (to pacify him), after he chastises Charlie and Ms. Morrow (Deputy DA) warning Charlie he's just an observer and better not be questioning any of the suspects!

"The fool questions others, the wise man questions himself".
