TONIGHT: "The Scarlet Clue"

“So many fish in fish market, even flower smell same.” – Charlie Chan

Our movie for this week’s edition of our Monday Evening Chat and film viewing will be “The Scarlet Clue,” starring Sidney Toler. Charlie Chan, Number Three Son, Tommy, and Birmingham Brown seek to uncover the identity of a stealthy killer within the confines of a radio/television studio! Can Chan and company evade the traps of this ruthless murderer as they try to put a stop to a reign of murderous terror?

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing through such outlets as YouTube, etc. HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “The Scarlet Clue,” IS available at YouTube! Here is the address:

FILM NOTES: The working title of this film was Robot Murder. The title card reads: Charlie Chan in "The Scarlet Clue". Hollywood Reporter production charts include Harry Bradley and William Gould in the cast, but their participation in the released film has not been confirmed. Hollywood Reporter production charts also note that director of photography William Sickner was borrowed by Monogram from Universal to work on this film. The minor role of actor "Horace Carlos" is obviously based on film actor Boris Karloff, while the film's killer wears a mask modeled on actor Rondo Hatton. Modern sources add the following actors to the cast: Charles Jordan (Nelson) and Kernan Cripps (Detective).

THIS WEEK’S FILM STILL: Our film still image for this week (please see attachment) shows Charlie Chan with dazed Birmingham Brown who just escaped death! If you do not receive our weekly film still image and wish to do so (plus receive our weekly email message), please email to: charliechanfamily@lycos.com.

NEXT WEEK: (September 1 – LABOR DAY) we will be sharing “The Shanghai Cobra” with Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan, Benson Fong as Number Three Son, Tommy, and Mantan Moreland as Birmingham Brown!

PLEASE NOTE: “THE RETURN OF CHARLIE CHAN” ON DVD: If you are interested in purchasing a clear, clean copy of “The Return of Charlie Chan” (Universal – 1971) a made-for-TV movie starring Ross Martin as Charlie Chan (which will be our final film stop on this year’s Chan Film Tour), I can recommend a version which you will find available at: http://www.ioffer.com/i/the-return-of-charlie-chan-ross-martin-dvd-504052734. It lists for $14.99 which includes postage/handling. However, you may make a lower offer! “The Return of Charlie Chan” is this year’s final film in our journey through Chandom!

As always, please take care, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for another evening of fun and sharing as we watch “The Scarlet Clue.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
