Our virtual HALLOWEEN party for Monday: "Charlie Chan in Egypt"

"Reverence for ancestors most commendable.” – Charlie Chan

HAPPY HALLOWE’EN! Our Monday Evening Chat and film viewing for this week features “Charlie Chan in Egypt,” starring Warner Oland, as we hold our annual Charlie Chan family VIRTUAL Halloween Party! This is always one of our most anticipated events of the year, as we come prepared to watch a Charlie Chan film with “spooky” undercurrents! Come attired in your best “virtual” costume as any character from a Charlie Chan movie: good or bad…human or animal! You may log-in incognito (giving us the chance to guess your true identity), as the character you have chosen, or you may log-in as your usual self…the choice is yours!

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing through such outlets as YouTube, etc. HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “Charlie Chan in Egypt,” IS available at YouTube at this address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1E2zrjB03_E

FILM NOTES: The American Film Institute Catalog correctly lists the running time for Charlie Chan in Egypt as 72 minutes. However, recent sources have stated that it is actually 65 minutes in length. The larger figure certainly relates to the original running time, while, the smaller may indicate that some surviving prints of this film have been shortened. The music and the appearance of the opening title and credits lend further credence to this probability, as the music and accompanying sound of water splashing can be traced to a scene that occurs 51 minutes into the film. It is likely that the original opening title sequence has been lost and the current version was a reconstruction, possibly owing the film having been shortened in length at some point in its existence. For more information, please check our Charlie Chan Family Home site at: http://www.charliechan.info/id26.html

NEXT WEEK: (November 3) we will be sharing “Charlie Chan at the Race Track” starring Warner Olan, as we hold our annual Charlie Chan Family Melbourne Cup Night!

PLEASE NOTE: “THE RETURN OF CHARLIE CHAN” ON DVD: If you are interested in purchasing a clear, clean copy of “The Return of Charlie Chan” (Universal – 1971) a made-for-TV movie starring Ross Martin as Charlie Chan (which will be our final film stop on this year’s Chan Film Tour), I can recommend a version which you will find available at: http://www.ioffer.com/i/the-return-of-charlie-chan-ross-martin-dvd-504052734. It lists for $12.00 which includes postage/handling. However, you may make a lower offer! “The Return of Charlie Chan” is this year’s final film in our journey through Chandom!

As always, have a pleasant Monday, and let’s all get together for an evening of fun…and FRIGHT, as we watch “Charlie Chan in Egypt.”

Sincerely,

Rush Glick
