Our final 2014 Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The Return of Charlie Chan"

“So much for so much.” – Charlie Chan

For this week’s edition of our Monday Evening Chat and film viewing we come to the end of our 2014 journey through the Charlie Chan film series. It has been an interesting trip and some interesting bonus stops have been shared! Our final stop will humbly feature “The Return of Charlie Chan,” starring Ross Martin as Charlie Chan. “The Return of Charlie Chan,” a made-for-television movie, was produced in 1971, released the following year, and finally aired in American television in 1979. In this “updating” of the Charlie Chan character, we find that Chan is retired to his Hawaiian pineapple farm, surrounded by his grown children and numerous grandchildren! He is called out of retirement to help solve a mystery involving one of the world’s wealthiest men.

So, please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).
Even if you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, newcomers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing through such outlets as YouTube, etc. However, “The Return of Charlie Chan” is nowhere to be found on the Internet…sorry!

FILM NOTES: The film was, by certain accounts, meant as a pilot project for the possible revival of Charlie Chan with Ross Martin, renowned for his work on the hit TV adventure series, “The Wild, Wild West.” Produced in 1971, it was not aired on American television until 1979. As “The Return of Charlie Chan” has a running time of 91 minutes, its length could have been a factor in not having been allotted the necessary two-hour block of time that would have been required.

THIS WEEK’S FILM STILL: None…sorry!

NEXT WEEK: (January 5) we will begin our 2015 Charlie Chan Family Tour with “Behind That Curtain.”

As always, have a wonderful Monday, and let’s all get together for our final evening – for THIS year - of fun and sharing as we watch “The Return of Charlie Chan.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
