As we celebrate Keye Luke's birthday, we will share: "Phantom of Chinatown"!

Confucius say, "No man is poor who have worthy son." (“Charlie Chan at the Race Track”)

As out group excursion through the Charlie Chan film series continues, we have arrived at a momentary stopover to celebrate the birthday of our Number One Son, Keye Luke! For this celebration, we will be watching “Phantom of Chinatown”, as Keye luke portrays a younger detective James lee Wong, a role that none other than Boris Karloff had filled for five previous films!

Please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

FILM NOTES: “Phantom of Chinatown” was the sixth and final film in the Mr. Wong series. This was the only film that starred Keye Luke during his long career. “Phantom” was directed by Phil Rosen, who would be the director of a number of Charlie Chan mysteries at the same Monogram Pictures studios. Fictional Chinese-American detective James Lee Wong created by Hugh Wiley (1884-1968). Wiley penned twelve Mr. Wong adventures which were published in ‘Colliers’ magazine between 1934 and 1938.

EVEN IF you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, new comers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc.

HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “Phantom of Chinatown,” IS available at YouTube at this address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm5t5UylSHc

NEXT WEEK (June 22) we will be sharing “Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum.”

Please have a happy and safe Monday, and let’s all get together for another Chan-filled evening of fun and sharing as we celebrate Keye Luke’s birthday as we view “Phantom of Chinatown.”

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
