TONIGHT'S Chat/Film Viewing! "The Jade Mask"

“No barber shave so close but another barber find some work to do.” (Charlie Chan: “The Jade Mask”)

Tonight we meet another Chan offspring, Number Four Son, Edward as our trip through the Charlie Chan film series brings us to “The Jade Mask.” We also meet an eccentric inventor/scientist who is despised by virtually everyone. Who, among the collection of odd and unusual suspects is it that caused his demise? Can Charlie Chan, Eddie (make that EDWARD!), and Birmingham Brown find the killer before ALL suspects are murdered as well?

Please join us in our Chat Room which is located at our Charlie Chan Family Home: www.charliechan.info, and use any of the “Chat Room” links to join us. We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and we roll our personal copies of our film exactly 15 minutes later (8:15).

FILM NOTES: The working title of this film was "Mystery Mansion." The title card on the print reads: 'Charlie Chan in "The Jade Mask."' Early 'Hollywood Reporter' production charts include Russell Simpson in the cast, but it is unlikely that he appeared in the released film. The 'Variety' review mistakenly identifies Edwin Luke's role as Tommy in the accompanying list of credits. Edwin Luke, who played Edward Chan in this picture, was the younger brother of actor Keye Luke, who had previously played son Lee Chan in numerous films in this series.

EVEN IF you cannot access a copy of the above-noted film, please do join us anyway, as you will NOT be left out of our ongoing chat and festivities. Also, as is our custom, new comers are offered the seat of honor at our humble table. Many of our films, such as this week’s entry, may be found available for viewing online through such outlets as YouTube, etc.

HAPPY NEWS…this week’s film, “The Jade Mask,” IS available at YouTube at this address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcTtjoSMkDQ

NEXT WEEK (August 24) we will be sharing “The Scarlet Clue.”

THE NEW ADVENTURES OF CHARLIE CHAN: If you don’t yet have a set of these 39 wonderful half-hour crime dramas starring J. Carrol Naish and James Hong, please consider obtaining one. “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” was produced in 1957 and takes place in many exotic locales around the world, mainly Europe. Many of the episodes were actually shot on location, offering us a glimpse of parts of the world as they were nearly 60 years ago, and we can also see how some places are much the same to this day. All this and 39 worthy mysteries as well! On occasion, we will be focusing on some of these adventures during our Monday Evening Chats, and “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” can be found for sale throughout the Internet. Please take some time ad take a look at our information on “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan” at our Charlie Chan Family Home. I have nearly completed the task of documenting each of the stories, and, hopefully, that may be completed by summer’s end!

Take care, be happy and safe on this fine Monday, and let’s gather as we always do this evening for a Chan-filled night of suspense…and fun!

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
