TONIGHT: "The New Adventures of Charlie Chan"...and a BONUS!

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Strange, is it not, how wishes can sometimes turn into reality.” (“Your Money or Your Wife”)

Monday greetings! Continuing along on our CHARLIE CHAN FILM TOUR 2016, we will now share two episodes of “The New Adventures of Charlie Chan”: “Your Money or Your Wife” and “Blind Man’s Bluff.” These come from the 1957 TV crime/mystery drama which starred J. Carroll Naish as Charlie Chan, now retired from the Honolulu Police Department, and featured James Hong who played his number one son, Barry, throughout most of the episodes. Tonight, we will begin with a 15-minute episode of the 1930s radio drama, “The Adventures of Charlie Chan” starring Walter Connolly as Charlie Chan!

OUR PRESENTATIONS: “Your Money or Your Wife” and “Blind Man’s Bluff” (1957). Runtimes: 26 minutes…AND “The Death of Landini” (radio program ca. mid-1930s)

SUMMARIES:
“The Death of Landini” - The sheriff's father and Inspector Chan agree that Ah Sing is the probable killer, but change their minds when the sheriff reveals new facts. Is Romano the guilty one? Ireland accuses Dr. Swan of blackmailing Landini! "To betray a secret is to blacken soul with badge of dishonor."

“Your Money or Your Wife” - Mr. Kramer, a wealthy resident of a Malibu beach community, calls on Charlie Chan to learn who is trying to kill him. Soon, Chan discovers that Kramer's wife, Marsha, is missing and a ransom note that is left behind.

“Blind Man’s Bluff” - At Los Angeles International Airport, Charlie Chan and son Barry are witnesses as a blind man is killed and his seeing-eye dog badly injured. Chan quickly realizes that this case is far more complex than it appears.

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 8:00 EASTERN TIME. 15 minutes later (8:15), we begin with the radio drama, “The Death of Landini.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

IF YOU LACK A COPY OF OUR FILM: Often our features can be found available online, but, sadly, tonight’s features are not presently available. However, our radio drama, “The Death of Landini,” is available online at: http://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/crime/charlie-chan/charlie-chan-14-landini

OF NOTE: J. Carroll Naish appeared with Warner Oland in “Charlie Chan at the Circus” (1936) as Gangor the Snake Charmer.

SO, please have a happy and restful Martin Luther King Holiday, and I hope to see you tonight as we share our features together!

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
