Our Chat/Film Viewing for Monday evening, 2/8: "Charlie Chan in Paris"...and MORE!

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Youth tonic for old blood.”

Monday greetings! As we continue to move along on our CHARLIE CHAN FILM TOUR 2016, we will be viewing “Charlie Chan in Paris,” starring Warner Oland. This film has a connection in continuity with last week’s “Charlie Chan in London,” as Mr. Chan, having just finished with that case flies across the Channel to the City of Light, Paris! Although he appears to be a mere visitor, Chan is actually on a mission for a London banking house, the purpose of which is to track a series of forged bank bonds. We will see a surprise visitor – Lee Chan! – who will assist his pop on a mission that turns deadly from the start!

Also, per our newly inaugurated custom, we will be sharing, before our featured film presentation, a vintage Charlie Chan radio show: “The Man Who Moved Mountains” which can be found on the Internet at: http://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/crime/charlie-chan/charlie-chan-45-xx-xx-man-who-moved-mountains

OUR PRESENTATION: “Charlie Chan in Paris” (1935). Runtime: 79 minutes…AND “The Man Who Moved Mountains (radio program, summer 1945; Runtime: 14 minutes).

SUMMARIES:
“The Man Who Moved Mountains” – In San Francisco, Charlie Chan combines the wisdom of the East with the science of the West in a thrilling and dramatic chapter from the Adventures of Charlie Chan. “It is wisely written that the man who wishes something for nothing invariable receives nothing.” On top of Cherry Hill one of San Francisco’s wealthier suburbs stands the mansion of Mr. Grainger famous art collector and philanthropist. Charlie Chan and his number one son are visiting Grainger to help him arrange his annual Christmas party given for the police orphanage. Like last week, this is another incomplete story, but still a wonderful glimpse into classic radio!

“Charlie Chan in Paris” - Charlie Chan is hired by British investors to investigate a bond-forgery racket involving a Parisian bank. Upon his arrival in Paris, Chan, who pretends to be on vacation, is made harshly aware through a warning note that the true nature of his visit is known. Later, his agent, a nightclub dancer named Nardi is killed before she can tell give the detective any information. Surprised by the appearance of his Number One Son, Lee, father and son work as a team on a dangerous case that is complicated by a false murder accusation for banker's daughter Yvette.
