Our Weekly Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan on Broadway"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “No poison more deadly than ink.”
This week our CHARLIE CHAN FILM TOUR 2016 takes us to the City of New York as we follow the exploits of Charlie Chan and Number One Son, Lee, as father and son are on their return trip from Europe and the Olympic Games to their home in Honolulu. During their stop in New York they are pulled into a case involving corruption and murder!

As is out new custom, arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, a vintage Charlie Chan radio show. This time it will be “The Landini Murder Case” (Episode 33) which can be found on the Internet at this address: http://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/crime/charlie-chan/charlie-chan-33-landini

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1. “The Landini Murder Case” (Episode 33; 1936; Runtime: 14:55)
2. “Charlie Chan on Broadway” (1937; Runtime: 68 minutes)

SUMMARIES:
“The Landini Murder Case” - Inspector Chan continues his investigation of the Landini murder with several interrogations. The bullet was fired from above, Ireland, the pilot comes under suspicion.

“Charlie Chan on Broadway” – Billie Bronson, having left the country hurriedly a year earlier when sought as an important witness in a political scandal, has returned to New York City to "blow the lid off the town." Later, Billie is mysteriously murdered and Charlie Chan is summoned from a police banquet in his honor. While seeking a motive for her murder, a second killing is discovered in the hotel room of Chan and son Lee. A package is missing from the detective's trunk and it is realized that it must have contained Billie Bronson's inflammatory diary. Chan must piece together a string of clues in order to find the killer.

NOTES: Thomas Beck is listed as a cast member in early ‘Hollywood Reporter’ cast charts, but his participation in the final film is doubtful.
