Our Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo"

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Questions are keys to door of truth.”

As we move along on our CHARLIE CHAN FILM TOUR 2016 we return to Europe with Charlie Chan and Number One Son, Lee, as we arrive at the principality of Monte Carlo! Father and son are on their way to Paris for an art exhibition, but they are soon detoured on a deadly road of international bond fraud and…MURDER!

As is out new custom, arriving at 7:30 Eastern Time, we will be sharing, before our featured presentation, a vintage Charlie Chan radio show. This time it will be “The Landini Murder Case” (Episode 34) which can be found on the Internet at this address: http://www.oldtimeradiodownloads.com/crime/charlie-chan/charlie-chan-34-landini

OUR PRESENTATIONS:
1. “The Landini Murder Case” (Episode 34; 1936; Runtime: 14:57)
2. “Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo” (1937; Runtime: 71 minutes)

SUMMARIES:
“The Landini Murder Case” - Inspector Chan continues his investigation of the Landini murder with several interrogations. The bullet was fired from above, Ireland, the pilot comes under suspicion.

“Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo” – Charlie Chan and number one son Lee are passing through Monte Carlo on their way to Paris for an art show in which Lee has a painting. They meet Inspector Jules Joubert, chief of police of Monte Carlo with whom they work to solve the murder of the courier of a wealthy financier, Victor Karnoff, who was carrying a fortune in bonds. Among the many suspects are Savarin, a bitter financial rival of Karnoff, Evelyn Gray, a beautiful blonde without visible means of support, and Al Rogers, a shady bartender who is blackmailing Mrs. Karnoff.

NOTES: “Charlie Chan at Monte Carlo” was Warner Oland's last film. Oland began “Charlie Chan at the Ringside” in January of 1938, but the production was halted when the actor walked off the set on the 17th of that month. According to news items, there was a dispute between Oland and the studio.
