Tonight's Monday Evening Chat/Film Viewing: "The Chinese Cat"

August 1, 2016

FROM CHARLIE CHAN: “Expert is merely man who make quick decision - and is sometimes right.”

Greetings, as we reach the month of August! Tonight we will be sharing “The Chinese Cat,” the second picture in the Monogram Pictures phase of the Charlie Chan series. Join along as Charlie Chan, Number Three Son, Tommy, and Birmingham Brown follow the trail of a ruthless diamond smuggling gang as the detective takes up an unsolved murder case.

Also, we will be sharing, before our featured film presentation, an “extra.” Tonight, our “bonus” presentation will feature the special featurette “Charlie Chan at the Movies” which can be found on the Fox DVD for “Charlie Chan at the Circus.” Sorry, but this featurette is not available online…

OUR PRESENTATIONS: “The Chinese cat” (1944); runtime: 65 minutes…AND “Charlie Chan at the Movies” (2006); total runtime: 23:00.

FILM SUMMARY: Leah Manning enlists Charlie Chan's help in solving the murder of her stepfather, Thomas, who was found slain in his study. With no concrete leads, the police have given up and only Chan's deducing can refute a scandalous book that blames Mrs. Manning, Leah's mother, for the crime. Number Three Son, Tommy and Birmingham Brown assist the detective as the trail to the identity of Manning's killer leads to a ruthless diamond smuggling gang.

TIME: We begin with arrivals and greetings at 7:30 EASTERN TIME. Then, we share our special short “extras” which will be followed at exactly 8:15 when
we roll our feature, “The Chinese Cat.”

LOCATION: Our Charlie Chan Family Chat Room, which is accessed at http://www.charliechan.info/id17.html.

IF YOU LACK A COPY OF OUR FILM: Often our features can be found available online, happily, our feature is presently available at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2-wuVmkwWU

OF NOTE: This was Monogram's second entry in the Charlie Chan series. The onscreen title is listed as “Charlie Chan in The Chinese Cat.” The working title of the film was “Murder in the Funhouse.”

PLEASE be happy and safe, and let’s gather together this evening for another Chan-filled Monday evening!

Sincerely,
Rush Glick
