LOGAN-LAMBIE-MCMURTRIE-BLACK-FLEMING

Greetings, list! I am searching for ancestors going back from my great-great grandmother, Agnes Logan. Anyone with similar interests, please feel free to contact me. I would like to fill in the missing information in my records, and also secure documentation where possible to these events. I'm rather new at this, though, so any assistance and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Agnes Logan, b. 18 Aug 1863, Dundee, Angus, SCO; d. 13 Nov 1942, Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA
Married to Joseph Lomax, b. 14 Jan 1860, Bury, Lancashire, England, but the family has different ideas on where this happened, and no one seems to be able to find out where, and we're not sure whether they were Presbyterian, High Episcopalian, or Catholic.

Agnes emigrated in 1871 with most of her family:

Jno Logan, 49, Weaver
Janet Logan, 49, Weaver
Jessie Logan, 19, Servant
Mary Logan, 10, Servant
Agnes, 7 1/2, None

A brother, William, b. 1855, was not on the immigration index.
******************************************************

Agnes' family as I have it thus far is as follows:

Father: John LOGAN, b. 1822, chr. 17 Feb 1822, Mauchline, Ayrshire, SCO

Paternal Grandfather: James LOGAN, b. 1800, d. 2 Feb 1881, buried Mauchline
His parents: John LOGAN, m. Hamilton MCMURTRIE

Paternal Grandmother: Sara LAMBIE, b. 1802, chr. 21 Mar 1822, Mauchline, d. 3 Mar 1827, buried Mauchline
Her parents: John LAMBIE, m. 27 Jul 1792, Mauchline to Margaret BLACK, b. 12 Feb 1769, chr. 19 Feb 1769, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire

Margaret BLACK's parents: John BLACK, b. 3 Dec 1724, m. 4 Feb 1754 to Margaret FLEMING, b. 1730, Kilmarnock

Regards,
Anne

Re: LOGAN-LAMBIE-MCMURTRIE-BLACK-FLEMING

Hi Anne,

I'm researching my 4th great grandparents, Duncan and Jeannette (BLACK)CAMPBELL. They were born in approximately the 1790s and came to the USA in the 1830s with 3 (that I know of) adult sons. Twins, Duncan & Margaret(t) (Maiden name unknown), Duncan's twin who's name is unknown and who died at sea. The third son was Ebenezer B. CAMPBELL. They settled in Tioga Co. PA.

I'm trying to find free online sites inn Scotland that I can search from the USA.

Any help is appreciated!

Cindy

Scottish searches

Cindy, I'd look in the US censuses first and passenger lists, and try to find more information. When you have all you can find from there, I'd go to the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness site, link here for Scotland: http://www.raogk.org/scotland.htm. They will do an "act of kindness" for you without charge (specific acts are listed by location).

I'd also go to Rootsweb and join mailing lists specific to your interests, and see if people can help you with look-ups or more information.

Other than that -- I don't know of any "free" information. Scotland seems to be bad that way, and I think VERY expensive to access their records!

Hi Anne. I have a James Lambie Sloan in my tree. The Lambie must come from somewhere, but I'm stumped with that one. Susan.

Hi, Susan. If you email Paul Lambie at paul.lambie1@btinternet.com he can put you on the Lambie mailing list that he moderates. He has done extensive work with this line, and I'm sure someone can help with your ancestor.

My connection with that line died out about 1825.

Re: LOGAN-LAMBIE-MCMURTRIE-BLACK-FLEMING

Hi Anne,

I live in Scotland and I would be happy to do some research (free) for you on your Scottish Logan connections. I noted that in the 1880 US Census the family were all residing in PA as carpet weavers: father John 58, Mother Janet 58, daughters named as Jessie, Maggie and Agnes 16. William was also mentioned so he must have emigrated at some point, most likely at the same time but somehow omitted from the list?

I have done research for another American in Illinois who has a John Logan (likely born Ayrshire) in 1803 who married a Margaret Riddell born Kilmarnock. You mentioned your John's father James born Mauchline 1800. Who knows John 1803 and James 1800 could be related, although Logan is not an uncommon Ayrshire name.

I have managed to uncover lots of info for this Illinois connection on his Scottish ancestors as I have access to lots of free data at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. If I can help email me at wheechmcgee@hotmail.com.
