Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

The Mavs are coming back with a vengeance Bobkitty!!!

Forget what happened in 2011....because WE ALREADY HAVE!!

Mavericks will be back!!!

3. Marshall
4. Hallsville

Going to the playoffs last year went to your head. Marshall had a bad year last year but the Mavericks are back and they have heart. I believe in our Mavericks. I am part of the Maverick Family and proud of it.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Lest we forget that it took a miracle play from Josh Warbington for Hallsville to beat the Mavs last year. Down years happen. Hallsville should know quite a bit about rough seasons. Sulphur Springs, similarly to Marshall, returns a very young, yet very talented roster. Texas High appears to be the more veteran team of the bunch. However, I see the Mavericks only district loss coming in a shootout to Sulphur Springs.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

All of Marshall's best players transfer to Hallsville or EF. It's been that way for years. The Bobkats are ready to become what Marshall use to be. Nice try though. The Mavs are finished!

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Marshall Mavericks have history and a bright future....If the Bobcats want to follow in our footsteps I can not think of a better team to follow to improve yourselves. You have not seen the last of the Mavericks.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Isn't Hallsville 2-10 against Marshall?

nuff said.

Only schools in the district that can talk smack about the Mavs are Texas High and Sul Springs. But they don't. Because they respect the Marshall program.

Hallsville wins for only the second time on a last second FG and they are suddenly the king of the hill. Right.

See you in October. See what you got to say then.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Actually the only teams that can talk smack to Marshall is Longview and Whitehouse. These are the only 2 teams within the past 5 years that has had Marshalls number. We are 2-1 against Texas High and 1-1 against SS in the past 5 years.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Actually, after going 2-8 last season I think everyone in the district can call Marshall a loser until they win again. And I dont see that happening in 2012. Or 2013. Or anytime soon again.

YOU ARE WRONG SIR. OBSERVE THAT.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

No Biggs, No Reynolds, No Spratt, NO VICTORIES... I don't see this team winning a game after last years disaster. Last years squad was loaded with talent and only won 2 games, so how does a team so young do any better, and to top it all off, the best players(Biggs,J. Reynolds, and Trey Spratt) aren't allowed to play for some un-explainable reason . So holla back whenever this team wins anything..........

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

A team consist of more than three players. I have faith in our Mavericks...they are going to play as a whole team and with heart. That is a hard combination to beat. I do not know the one person but the other two do not go to school in Marshall. Do not count the Mavericks out. Glad to be a part of the MAVERICK FAMILY.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

You HOPE they play as a whole team and with heart.....it's gonna be rough, especially If they have to play the frosh. Q.B......from the first three days, he looks like a FRESHMAN........I just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. Three players don't make a team but it helps to have some studs when you are so young. Those players are at other districts because Richters wouldn't allow them back for some un-explainable reason. For example, J. Reynolds moved to Houston and when he returned he wasn't allowed to play. He didn't break any rules, a child has no control of where he lives, that's predicated on the parent or guardian.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

The O-line and D-line will be critical. There will be enough talent at the skill positions to get the job done. J. Love can turn into something special if the line does its part. With no experienced QBs returning, the running game will have to set up the pass and play action.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Last year had too many players with talent, but had major attitude problems. Their attitudes cost them their starting slots. Some of them missed more than one game because of their attitude. I guess missing their playing time didn't teach them anything.

My guess is that some of these guys wanted special treatment because they had talent. That was the OLD way of doing things. The NEW way doesn't show favortism to players based on talent. All players play by the same rules.

Those guys could not be depended uppon by their teammates or their coaches.

We have a group of guys this year that are committed to each other and to what the coaches are doing.

Good riddance to anyone that distracts from that.

Marshall has been young before and had success because they had talent.

We made the playoffs in 04, 05, 07, 08, 09, 10

Can't tell me we didn't have young squads those years. And there were seasons in there we had new QB's. They all survived and advanced to the playoffs.

These guys are ready and they are hungry. Marshall will be fine. Plenty of playmakers out there with or without troublemakers. Not saying the three listed were among those, but saying that it WAS a MAJOR problem last year. Sometimes you have to clean house.

I'm ready to see what these guys can do. I think we have something special in the works.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

It's important, in this discussion of what Marshall was last year, to remember everything that contributed. Richters was thrown into the fire with very little time to put together HIS program. He inherited a team with a terrible culture. There were players playing for themselves and no one else. He started cleaning that up and changing the way Maverick football will be played under him. I'm excited to see what the Mavs will look like this year after Richters has had time to shape the team into his own.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

I couldn't agree more.

I really think last year was an aberration.

Even with all the turmoil. Even with all the disciplinary problems. Even with all the chaos.... it still took Kilgore double OT to beat us. It still took Hallsville a last second field goal to beat us and it still took PT a small miracle to beat us.

Face it, the 2011 Mavs we maybe the most troubled team Marshall has fielded since the 1991 team and some of us remember how torn up that team was.

I think everyone is excited about where this program is headed.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

You'll probaly have a different perspective after seeing this team practice. Definitely the worst QB play we have had in the last ten years.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

I apologize, after watching the scrimmage, I believe this team should make the playoffs. They look much better in pads. The offensive line is a work in progress but on the second day in pads one would expect the defense to be ahead of the offense. The key to the season is that a few players are gonna have to play both sides of the ball. Very impressed with freshmen D. Osborne and Mitchell. They should contribute as freshmen. Defensive end Anthony Washington(#99) is gonna be special(soph.). In fact , his brother(#90) on the freshmen team should get a shot at the varsity squad. He was the best d-lineman on the field today(fr,jv,and varsity). Wow, that kid has an unbelievable motor and has the size of any varsity lineman. The Washington Bros. are gonna be special the next few year for this program. Overall, not bad for only the second day in pads. We definitely should be better than last year . The change in offensive scheme is suited for the personel(qb under the center). PLEASE NO QB KEEPERS coach.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

spratt?... who is he?...A nobody thats who. we maight be young but we got grate playmaker on bothside of the ball know digg that..

Shutout by jasper....not the signs of a district champ....

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Let me know when we score a touchdown, we not going to ask for much more.....

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

How about a first down

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Hudson, you are a good athlete(actually one of the best on the team), but Spratt would have made a huge difference.Like avian said, we can't get a first down. Actually Biggs and Reynolds would help tremendously also. I don't know what Richters was thinking, but it couldn't be his future with the decisions he has made. He doesn't have the tenure or experience to make a decision to cut his best players. It should have been a team vote. The TEAM as a whole definitely has been trying to persuade Richters to let Reynolds and Biggs back. The way it is going this could be a long season. I know the new Supt. hasnt been impressed at all......

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Man i played 4 da mavs i luv my team but from watchin marshall in those scrimmages 0-10 is possible as a fan im gonna support them but i just dnt see them winning games with the coachin that they have an that looking at them for two weeks. Honestly they look like ants runnin around when u step on their house but hey its always the team u dnt expect to do nothing that shines in the end

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

We look like a first year varsity program.....

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Ok, I've been reading all the threads about this year's team. Some are being really rough on Richters for merely enforcing team rules, others are saying you can't have a team without a bunch of "thugs" or "gangstas" or whatever the current term for undisciplined divas is.
I would much rather have a coach who is interested in building character in his players. Without character, you may have short term success (wins), but your program won't turn out the kind of young men our society needs. Just look at Dez Bryant - extremely talented, but certainly not the kind of person you would want to marry your daughter or work in your company.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

That's why he won't win a game and be gone next year. A COACH is suppose to know how to deal with players from all backgrounds, i.e. John Outlaw or John King. According to your definition of "thug", John Tyler has a squad full of them, and they probaly win it all. I promise Richters doesnt have to deal with half the problems Dennis Parker dealt with. But if Richters was coaching that team that championship probaly never would have happen. He probaly would have kicked Chad Fox, D.D. Turner and The James boys off the team, they were too thugish

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

MavPA isn't the one who originally called anyone a thug. Someone else did. All he said is that Coach enforced team rules. Period.

No one or two players should be above the same rules everyone else has to abide by.

Good for coach for showing everyone has to play by the same set of rules.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

I'm sure said players who you outed with their names will be real happy to read this thread. How old are you 12? I love how you term troublemakers as kids from different backgrounds. How about going to class, practicing, doing your homework and staying out of trouble? How about their parents, grandparents, whether it be one or two people take responsibility for them and not blame a football coach for their failures? You earn your playing time on any team, and it's not given to you. If you don't abide by the rules, you don't play! Plain and simple! If things were swept under the rug before, they're not going to be with this coaching staff, and if the kids go 2-8, 1-9, 0-10, 10-0, 9-1 or 8-2, it doesn't matter, b/c they will learn a lot more when life really begins. This is a small part of it which doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Employers don't ask you how many high school football games you won when they're hiring. They look for your degree and try to decipher how much character you have. Some of these posts are really lacking a lot of the aforementioned character. Guess your football coach ahem role models failed you too? Quit basing your lives on kids please!

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Whatever that means......

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

It means get a life Mike!

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

After tommorow night, mike won't be the one your upset with......

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

I won't be upset at all, b/c I don't let high school football results be the base of my emotions good or bad. I'm a football fan in general and don't follow any particular team. Just watch Marshall from time to time and laugh at the lack of support this team receives from the so-called "grownups."

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Isn't it funny we had a stadium full of support a couple of years ago and within two years all the support is gone........

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

It's called fair weather.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

What do you call 42-0 shaking head....and oh yea(mavpaguy and shakinghead), looks like richters has instilled some discipline and has build quite of bit of character ....Get the %#$@ out of here!! A disciplined team with character doesnt clear the bench and get players ejected. Shaking Head, its always gonna be fair weather when you got fair weather coaches....On a positive note, whoever gets this job next year is gonna inherit some talent. Justin Hart is gonna be a STUD. There were a few more underclassmen that played fairly well for it to be their first high school game(J.Mitchell,D Osorne, A. Washington and John Love is a beast, even though he played varsity last year, he has a bright future. The two O Tackles are both D-1 size and are both underclassmen 6'4 270 and 6'3 260. Coach Lott would have had this line blowing people out the stadium. So the future is bright, we just need the right coach to come put the talent together properly'

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

What took so long to put #10 in the game. if he was in during the first half the game could have been competetive. Coaches have to know who the best qb is before the second half of the first game...

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

A penalty on the first play of the game ... I thought we got better coaching wise since the Harris tenure but obviously we have gotten considerably worst. I never seen anything like this, and everybody wants to talk about Richters building character..that's bull#%*^!!! You supposedly got rid of your troublemakers huh . Actually you got rid of your best pay makers(Biggs,Reynolds, and Spratt). Everybody, including the team itself know that they would be better with those three guys..a lot better!!!!

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

It's 36-0 byrd at the half...when will we get any points touchdown, field goal,,safety....You can't dismiss your best player( biggs and Reynolds), it hurts the whole team....Marshal wont win until they get a new staff, including pine tree and hallsville....WE SUCK...longview is gonna hurt this team!!

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Unless those guys are on the offensive line....and they AREN'T, nothing would really be different. The offensive line is like a sieve right now. Just like they were last season. When we were 2-8. We just have a tougher schedule this season than last season. Too bad we didn't play Huntington today, we would be 1-1.

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

Hart is gonna be the real deal tho......

Re: Season Predictions, Expectations, and Goals

the little #22 should play RB more. He's the best chance we have in the running game from what i have seen the last 3 games !!
