EYELID SURGERY

Eyelid surgery in Walnut Creek can rectify a variety of aging issues, including sagging skin. Your skin will gradually lose its elasticity over time, and when paired with the constant pull of gravity, this can cause the skin around your eyes to droop Eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the look of the eyes.

What Is an Eyelid Surgery?

An eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty or undereye bag surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce bagginess from the lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids. Depending on the patient, an eyelid lift is commonly performed for both functional and cosmetic reasons. It can help remove any excess skin that’s obstructing your vision and provide a more youthful look that you can carry with confidence.

Blepharoplasty can also be paired with other facial cosmetic procedures. Depending on your goals and the treatment plan, eyelid surgery can be performed together with facelifts, rhinoplasty surgery, or other facelift procedures.

The Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

The main goal of eyelid surgery for many of our patients is to see an improvement in the early signs of aging. The eyelift is the ideal solution for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, getting rid of those bags under your eyes, improving your vision, and obtaining a more youthful and alert appearance.

It is one of the most effective ways to give yourself a more refreshed look and can help improve many of the first impressions you make in business and social interactions. Best of all, it can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for a more significant transformation.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty have aesthetic and/or functional issues with their eyelids. Candidates for eyelid surgery are generally people who are middle-aged or older. However, there are cases where the patient can be as young as 18 years old.

Candidates must be healthy and have no pre-existing conditions that could lead to complications during surgery. People with realistic goals are the best candidates for this procedure.

Your Blepharoplasty Consultation

If you’re wondering if you’d make a good candidate for eyelid surgery, it’s best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Conderman to find out. Typically, patients who struggle with the early signs of aging and find that their eyes have a droopy or sad look as a result of excess skin may prove to be a good fit for the surgery.

However, a consultation is required to assess the degree of skin sagging, how realistic your goals are, and if you are in good general health. Dr. Conderman is a double-board certified facial plastic surgeon who can help walk you through the entire process with care and compassion. He will listen to your needs and develop a surgical plan that suits you best.

What to Expect During the Procedure

The eyelid surgery usually lasts around two hours. The exact duration depends on the number of eyelids being treated and the alterations needed for the procedure. Anesthesia will be administered at the start of the procedure. An incision will be made on the target area based on the chosen type of eyelid surgery in the treatment plan.

There are two types of eyelid surgery: upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty. Depending on your aesthetic goals, you may opt to choose one or both.

Upper eyelid surgery is performed with a strategically placed incision along the upper eyelid crease to gain access to the underlying tissue. Dr. Conderman will then precisely remove any excess skin and fat from the area, correcting the droopy look of your eyes.

Lower eyelid surgery is performed with an incision placed below the lash line. The incision is made to gain access to the pockets of fat that lie beneath the skin. The fat will be carefully analyzed and any excess will be removed. Once the necessary changes are made, Dr. Conderman will carefully close the incisions and limit the visibility of unsightly post-surgical marks.

Eye Lift Recovery

The healing process after eyelid lift surgery involves taking time off from work to rest and recover. Patients must be driven home by a friend or family member, since they will not be able to drive immediately following the surgery.

A minor degree of bruising and swelling will be present around the eyes, but this will fade in time. Cold compresses can be used to aid this process, and keeping one’s head elevated is key. Dryness may occur during healing and can be addressed as directed by Dr. Conderman.

After 10 days, the patient can resume normal activities. However, strenuous activities are only recommended after three weeks. Eyeglasses can
