The event was new to Birchwood, with a new map done specially for the event. Distance was 8.5km as the crow flies. I estimate I did about 10.6km. I had hoped to track my route on my GPS watch, but I forgot to turn it on. Start times were from 10:30 to 12:30 to help avoid people following each other around the course.

Lancaster Half Marathon 6/11/16

I'm not too disheartened considering my watch ran out of battery 20 minutes before the race! A great course considering they had to change the entire course a couple of weeks ago. Mostly flat until...a MASSIVE hill towards the 13th mile where the race finishes inside Lancaster Castle.
It's not a chip-timed race, in case anyone is considering this for next year.

Described as "The UK's most scenic 10 mile road race"- downhill(ish) from a start in Keswick for the first 4 miles, then up a fair hill for 5-7ish, and back through some back lanes (including run past a sheepdog trial) into Keswick.

A great morning at the Conwy Half! As anticipated, The Great Orme was a beast (2 mile stretch mostly uphill) but it was more or less downhill after that.
If you want a challenge next year, the Conwy Half is for you! I'm definitely coming back.

A map is given at the start with a load of controls on. You have to run around picking up controls (when I say pick up I mean dib an electronic punch card). Controls = points. The further out, or more difficult to find, controls get more points. There is a 4 hour time limit to get as many as possible. I lost 5 points as I took just under 4h05. In checking the rules I've noted it will be the Kong Mini Mountain Marathon in 2017. the series comprises of 4 races.

The lateness penalties are:
-1 to 5 minutes late - 1 point per minute
-6 to 10 minutes late - 2 points per minute
-11 to 15 minutes late - 5 points per minute
-16 to 30 minutes late - 10 points per minute

I could have picked up 20 points near the end but left them as I was not sure if they would count anyway and I was already over 4 hours and losing points by the minute.

manchester christmas pudding 5 mile Sunday 27th november

A mixed terrain course about one mile on tarmac paths and the other four on squidgy fields and rooty woodland trail. Most of the time I felt I was either running on Xmas pudding or that I was one. That said it was a fun, low key race with much fancy dress. In fact, a man dressed in fairy wings and a tutu had a healthy lead after the first lap of this two lapper in Wythenshawe park. Sadly and ironically his wings (and tutu) must have eventually held him back (aerodynamically and perhaps psychologically) as he finished (a creditable,considering) second. As for me I finished 24th before the MV50 and MV55 but second male MV65. Whats up with these old fellas turning up for the same races as me when they should be snoozing in front of the fire with their slippers and pipe.(Health and safety alert; do not try this at home!)

Another great weekend away, there must've been 50+ local runners over there from LRC, Mossley Hill, Knowsley Harriers and Kirkby Milers plus runners from Widnes Wasps, Wallasey, Birkenhead etc.
It really is like one big club when we're all over there together, plenty of sore heads and croaky voices on Monday morning!
