The Rombalds Stride is a 23 mile off-road race over the hills and moors of West Yorkshire between my home town in Leeds and Bradford. The route takes in Baildon moor, Rombalds moor, Ilkley moor and Otley Chevin. There is lots of deep mud and freezing cold puddles. The hills are very steep and unforgiving. The famous hill is at mile 19-20 up a huge steep hill on Otley Chevin. Think Birchwood XC mud up a one mile Runcorn ski slope hill. You get a cloth badge and pie and peas when you finish. If you like a challenge or your slightly insane enter with us next year (only £13)

I had hiccups at the start, so started quite a way back at 06:10 in the morning. Fortunately my hotel was less than 5 minutes from the start. James started late, at around 06:40. It was a good course going on the big bridges between the islands and through a long tunnel to reach the finish in Hong Kong.

I don't know what the route was, but imagine it also ran over big bridges and through a long tunnel. The start location was the same as the full marathon. The Watkins based themselves a long way away so required a very early start to the day of 3am. It seems that I should adopt this method in future. It might cure hiccups to.

It was a dry year; no lake to run through with a shark in this year. Martin led the men home to 6 wins out of 6. The women finished 2nd on the day to LRC and 2nd overall.

This wasn't only my first 10 miler, it was the windiest race I've ever ran, the seafront took no prisoners this morning!
