The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Entries are now open for one of the biggest and best events in the running calendar, the 2017 NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays!!

Clubs from all over the North of England compete against each other for the chance to race in the English Road Relay Championships. Teams of 6 women and 12 men race over alternating length legs with a handover after each leg. Pretty much what is says on the tin! This year the long legs are around 4 miles and the short legs are around 3 miles.

Here are the details of the event from the prospectus:

Saturday 25th March 2017
at Stanley Park Blackpool FY3 9HU
12,00 am start
For the Blackpool & Fylde Trophy – Holders: Salford Harriers
Stages 1, 3, 5, 7, (4 x Long Legs) are approximately 4 miles
Stages 2, 4, 6, 8, 9,10,11 & 12 (8 x Short Legs) are approximately 3 miles

These events are always a spectacle, great fun and a brilliant way to run as part of a team representing our great club.

If you fancy getting involved, then please reply to this message with your full name so Helen and I can make sure the entries are correct.

We can enter as many teams as we like, so let's hit Blackpool like it has never been hit before!

Once we have a better idea of the numbers, we can then begin to figure out the logistics for the event.

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Hi Andy,

Do I need to be a first claim member to enter this?

Cheers Roy

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Andy, if you are stuck for short leg count me in

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Put my name down for this Andy.

If you've never done relays before, give it a go it's a great team bonding day and a chance to get a photo with Steve Cram!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Well, I have a club vest now, so would be rude not to give it a run-out.
Luke Bushnell-Wye

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Roy- I think you do have to be a first claim member to represent the club at these events but I will clarify.

Simon- There is always room for legends!

Keep the names coming in boys and girls!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Hi Andy,

I should be good, my old club released me on the 12th Feb and I have not raced for them since the summer.

So fingers crossed it will be all completed soon.

Thanks,

Roy

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Come on ladies and gents roll up, roll up (well, it is at Blackpool). This is a brilliant event and yet another chance for the club to boost its profile.

No excuses from those in Marathon training - the captains will happily allocate you a short leg!

Two full mens teams and two full womens teams in 2014 - can we beat that?

Sorry for being a wally but...
...which Char is this?

Soz!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

I am in if needed

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Just getting this back to the top because, quite honestly, if you only represent the club in one event, it has to be the 12-stage (men) or 6-stage (women).

Speak to anyone on this thread who has already done it and they'll confirm that it's not just me getting all misty-eyed (Marty even broke a world record at the event once, tho' it was back in 2005)

Being on a Saturday it can help with marathon training without getting in the way of your long Sunday run or race. No obligation to be there all day either if time is an issue and ability is not a factor

Martin will no doubt be leading from the front as usual but with the quality now donning the black and white, the club has the chance to show its strength on the road and prove to people that the cross country successes were not one-offs.

It's a great day out guys - even if it was cancelled because of snow on the last weekend in March when it was last held in Blackpool (it's true!)

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Ladies and gents,

We are still a few short for both teams and the deadline is fast approaching.

This is almost the final call for all passengers.

Names below have already been taken, new names will be entered tomorrow.

Cheers

Rachel Rick
Charlotte Radcliffe
Charlotte Sanderson-Rigby
Lauren Wilson
Anna Watkin
Rachel Hall

Great stuff!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Cannot believe you got 2 full men's teams out
well done (24)
Ladies also well done,(6) but if you look at the times of the winners we could have been in the mix with our best runners
Considering
we have nearly 400 members and more ladies than men !!!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Marty - if you've trouble believing that, you'll definitely think this is a wind-up :

NOT ONLY DID WE ACHIEVE SUCH A GOOD TURNOUT : THE MEN QUALIFIED FOR THE NATIONAL ON APRIL 8TH IN SUTTON COLDFIELD

This is a first for the club and arguably (no, make that 'definitely'!) the club's greatest competitive achievement in its 32-year history

Credit to all the runners involved but credit to the leadership of Andy Cantwell without whose enthusiasm and willingness to badger people until they couldn't say no, none of this would have been possible

Onwards and upwards!

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Was thinking about it, there are aplenty around Brum, however I'm dedicating my Saturday to the 12-stage cause

Re: The NA 6 and 12 Stage Road Relays

Hi everyone, there are still spaces left available on the coach for the National Road Relays on Saturday 8th April. Please let Andy know if you would like to go along and support the team, or if you are taking part and would like to bring a friend to support the team. Let's fill this coach - we are Penny Lane! :) xxx #teampls #nofomo
