A firm favourite of mine ... even if it was 2 weeks after Amsterdam Marathon. One of the best 10ks in the country!! Conditions were perfect and the race quality was top notch as always even Dejene from Liverpool Harriers who wins everything in Merseyside with plenty to spare was only 13th .... in 30:18 .... yes that is for 10K!!

It was middle of November, early Saturday
A group of us dear Striders met up to run and play
Wales our destination, in the mini bus we went
A lot of time in Morrisons happily was spent
We got to Betws y Coed and many dogs we saw
I patted many many, and each doggy I adore
We lined up at the start - 5 or 10k was our aim
That 1.5 mile hill really was insane
The hills were alive with the sound of many a strider
Some stayed in the pub drinking drinkin wine and cider
The race the view the marshalls - all were simply stunning
I was one happy mouse when my dog friends started running
Then twas too the pub and starting on the gym
Well done PLS for the prizes you did win
Off to the accommodation, our spag bol was delish
We even had home made pie afterwards to finish
The drinking it continue ; vodka wine and gin
Then the cry was heard Let the games begin
Human Hungry Hippos, races on wheely chairs
Though no one had the nerve to wheel down the stairs
Cards against humanity- was truly brillo pad
Singing and the conga - so much fun we had
Sparklers in woods, then we went star gazing
It's safe to say our weekend truly was amazing!!

5th Lawrence Eccles (and non strider Ally Beaven) 09:24:54
Ally got a late entry via a transfer and asked the organiser if he could run as a pair. The organiser said 'yes' and Grande Brexitos were reunited (we'd done a race in Andorra and the Old County Tops in 2017). Sadly my lack of fitness was found out halfway through day 2. I ended up trudging to the finish. It's good retrospectively. The prize for finishing was a Run GMC mug. They're not as good as the Old County Tops mugs. The event combines orienteering (1:5k map) and hill navigatation (1:50k). Sadly the event is only on every two years.

A very popular race for a fell race. It's good value for money at £9 including a tech T-Shirt. It is a tough race. One runner was air lifted off after impaling his foot on a foreign object. Our own Tom King limped off the hill after 13 miles to find a pub and get a taxi back to the start. He'd just sprained his ankle.

The men's team got a better result than at Clarke's finishing third. The women's team went two better and finished first.

This was another 4 hour orienteering event; in the Peak District again. The conditions were ideal for testing navigation skills (i.e. low cloud all day and drizzle on and off). I failed on step one for these events and neglected to start my watch at the start. I noticed a while later and estimated I'd been running for 10 minutes. I finihed over 10 minutes under 4 hours in the end so lost no points. Sadly I had not collected that many points relative to other people at the event. One lad had managed to sweep up 700 points. I need to get faster and better at nav; and remember to start my stop-watch when I start.
