The ground was still muddy (I'd hoped it would be frozen) meaning it was quite slippy in places. There was also some ice in shaded areas to keep me on my toes. This event was about scoring as many points in 3 hours. The winner managed to pick up all 500 on offer, but was 5 minutes late so lost 10 points. Next event is 15th December, which clashes with the north West Cross Country League. There is another event in January.

Cold morning parts of the course (All road) were icey and no traction felt like running on the spot :joy: kept going to the side of the road to find some grip.
Great event and well marshaled and a MASSIVE CHEESE BALL as your goody....

I was tipped off about the race and the requirement to pre-enter. I'm not sure why it's so popular; a bit like Parbold in that regard. Pre-race the organiser advised full fell kit, including map and compass, as required. Oddly there was no indication what the route was! I found it by Google and noted it looked like a trail race. Turned out it was; and excellently marked with blue flags. They had a short section that allowed for route choice; a sign said, "Any route from here to Trig." I opted for a lot of path to gain height rather than the direct line up a steep slope. Not sure it made much difference. I never caught the leaders. I didn't get caught. I got a bottle of Famous Grouse. Perhaps one for the off-road champs.

I had hoped to sneak under six hours, but a sprained ankle earlier in the weak forced me to re-evaluate. Luckily it was not a great hindrance on the day. The weather proved pleasant for running. The snow of last weekend had mostly melted leaving lots of mud behind. Perhaps this is why the times were slower this year; or perhaps it was a less fit field. It did not lack in names with Adam Perry winning (he's won the Fellsman multiple times) and Murray Strain in second (he famously came second at Snowdon once, but did gain retribution winning the race the following year). Behind me was the Wainwrights record holder most notably.

I had hoped to transfer a place to my name, but they made me pay to enter. It could have been worse as the race was advertised as full. 6deg felt cold, but the rain held off until about 55 minutes into the race, so I went home. I was hearing the exploits of the PLS Chinese connection who had been allowed to return to the UK; on a temporary basis. He has to get back to his camp in the New Year. He does get a holiday to North Korea, for a marathon!

Great morning for running. Stacked field as expected for the North of England championships.

Caught up to John about mile 4 who stayed with me to the finish. Had hoped to run sub-43 but apparently the 'fast' course has around 300 ft of undulating hills and I don't really like hills.

Bowstones Fell Race

The race said that fancy dress was positively encouraged. I did not take the encouragement, and instead wore the PLS vest. The strong cold wind meant my arms went numb. Maybe some arm warmers would have helped. A bottle of beer at the finish was a nice touch. The race sells out faster than Parbold, 4 hours apparently. The organiser does operate a waiting list which is how I entered on the day. Note I did apply last Sunday to go on to the waiting list.

Liverbird Marathon single and double.

Weather was probably the best its ever been for this race on both days and the support from our club members was absolutely superb.
We had runners, riders, ghetto blasters, people with sweets and water and believe me each and everyone one of you gave the runners such a boost.

Day one slight headwind heading from town towards the redbull.

We had two striders who did the double Rachel Rick & Jane Nicholson what an epic achievement.
