The weather was perfect for running a fast time. I was going well until just after halfway, then the calf muscles began to betray my running gait. I tried a salt tablet, or three, but I suspect it wasn't dehydration induced cramp. My lack of conditioning had caught up with me. I shuffled along, attempting to run every now and then, only to be betrayed and drop back to a slower pace. Thankfully the hilly course and glorious weather made it pleasant enough. Soup, tea and cake at the finish helped prepare the body for the two hour drive home.

The male field may have been lacking this year, but the women came out in force with the top 3 in the top 7 overall. The course was as per previous years and not too flooded, just two big puddles to negotiate 3 times each. It was dry and around 5 degrees for running, so little chance of overheating.
