Oddly, as the race started 2 minutes late my time is 2 minutes in arrears! I entered the race in 2020 and it had carried over, so maybe that has something to do with it. The race route (well check points) change every 3 races. This was the second time on this course. I spotted an opportunity to get between two early check points faster and gained a 2 minute lead. Sadly one of the chasing pack didn't give up the chase and caught me anyway; and went on to beat me by over 40 minutes! On a positive nutrition went well and I was able to eat all race without feeling sick. I tried calf compression socks; seemed fine; perhaps they slowed me down without me noticing due to the extra weight.

Near perfect conditions for running, a cold start with clear skies and very light breeze. Slightly muddier than previous year and still some patches of ice on the tops, which made my choice of footwear not optimal.

Wrexham elite marathon (and half)

The race was ran on a 3.75 mile lapped course around Wrexham industrial estate. The elite status was downgraded this year to 1:15/1:30 half marathon for men and women respectively and, more importantly for me, sub3 for both men and women. It was a good(ish) setup, although Sean seemingly self sabotaged his run with his own drinks on the drinks table. I used the supplied water to keep costs down

Entered race while away in Northern Ireland for Easter. Tough course along mainly country roads which was fairly hilly in places. Was a well organised event.

The people who look at PLS club records will note that Darren beat Martin's record from 2016 by 1 second. Nigel Grant also pointed out that Neil was the first V45 to have run sub 17 minutes in a PLS vest. I think Mid-Cheshire has now established itself as the fastest 5k in the North West. It attracts a massive field, although oddly seems to have a small number of portaloos considering! Christleton, the previous fastest 5K in the North West, is up next on Friday the 13th. I wonder if any more records will be broken.
