In terms of route and conditions it was a dry day and the ground was also pretty dry. The race routes generally avoid the busy paths, but do finish with the busiest path on Famau. Fortunately the path is wide, but it's still sometimes difficult to find a route through the crowd.
This was another race in the Penny Lane Off Road Championship. Next up is Tawd Valley parkrun on 14th May

Oddly the ultra competitive fell inter-counties ran a shorter version of the Moel Eilio fell race. Even odder was the fact you had to be 19 to do the shorter county course, but only 18 to do the longer fell race. This is how team Merseyside managed to lose one female runner. Fortunately Melissa did the race at less than a day's notice. I had to resort to Strava to understand how the winner did the course in under 47 minutes! The secret is going uphill at 8 min mile pace.

According to Garmin/Strava I ran 22.17...a pb! Ha ha...
But I think the gun time is about 10 seconds off for some people that finished around me...

I finally won the race after two second places and a third. It was great to finally win even though it wasn't a PB. I'll blame the heat, but it actually made for a nice day for the marshals and dry ground underfoot for runners. This was the first running under the new race name in homage to a Helsby running club legend. It was good to see their family came to support the race and hand out the trophies. The race is still a reasonable £25 which includes the bus to the start in Whitchurch. The mayor came out for the start and post race in Frodsham there were sandwiches, tea, coffee, juice and water to help with post race recovery.
They just put '???' under club name on my record for the Mystery 5k on Tursday (maybe they couldn't read my writing!), but I ran 23:26

ORC race Thurstaston Multi Terrain Challenge Tuesday 17th May 2022
Just short of 6 miles.
A warm evening and the rain threatened making the choice of footwear tricky. The rain held off but there was a strong head wind on the beach, the undulating run through the Heswall dales was much more sheltered and dry underfoot. The final stretch down the Wirral wat seems never ending, but we were rewarded with a snickers, a bottle of water and a wooden coaster. The ice cream shop was also open an Kathryn bought me an ice cream :smiley:

A fine evening for an off road trail run. The vegetation had unfortunately been growing rather too well and some of the paths were getting overgrown (especially for those over 6ft tall like me). I ran a PW, but somehow still ended up second. I suppose the race belongs to those who turn up. I got the traditional box of fruit and veg after eating a meal in the pub. The race is on again in late June, July and August.
