I entered last night and hoped the event would still be on by the morning; it was. The weather was actually very nice with blue sky. There was no ice on the route of note, although it was cold. I wore gloves again. I was slightly disappointed to finish over 36 minutes, but in a way the time wasn't too important for the club championship. I wasn't about to run sub 32 minutes. As I waited at the finish I heard the commentators getting excited for the first 5k runner. He was about to beat the course record. I looked over and was very surprised to see Paul Riley cross the line. I assumed he must have ran the 10k with a 5k number. He has form for this. As it happens he had won the 5k for real. I assume it must have been the first year on this course!

To complete my 10 mile races for the Penny Lane Striders championship I picked this one by junction 34 of the M6. The Trimpel 20 miler was ran at the same time. I'll let people who did that race compile the results and give an optional report. The positives were the distance was correct and the marshals were well positioned. The finish was somewhat insane with a hairpin bend on wet muddy grass before a final 10m to the finish tent. The weather felt almost tropical compared to the past few days. The wind was not too strong, although I imagine it got a lot more noticeable on the 20 mile course. A wagon wheel and pear 🍐 provided at the finish!

This was last race in the ORC. The weather leading up to the event was a mixture of snow, sleet and driving rain, which did not bode well for the race. However, the morning of the race the weather was clear and settled, there were a few clouds in the sky but not the threatening type. There was still a chill in the air but the woodland nature of this run made it feel mild.
Mine and Alices time were mixed up on the results and this had absolutely nothing to do with us putting our shoe tags on at the same time at the back of my car and everything to do with the incompetence of the organisers. It seems though we were the only one that experienced this mix up. We waited round at the end as Lenka had won a prize and were able to advise of the correct finishing positions. There was free cake and tea for all runners, the person giving out the vouchers was not taking peoples numbers so there was an opportunity for double cake, which we passed on

The hardest 10k in Wales! (According to Tony Man).

Tattenhall runners put on this classic race. Entries are limited to 85 due to limited parking in the area. We were on a rather muddy field, though we got off without me needing to get my sandals muddy so it wasn't that bad. Next year they may look at busing runners in to the village... I suspect they'll stick with the limited field. Running conditions were good and the course record got broken. A few people went the wrong way near the end; the organiser said they'd put a big arrow next year. Cakes and hot drinks available at the finish for a small charitable charge (£1 each). Easter egg and wine for prizes
Mad Dog 10k
Conditions were excellent - it was quite windy on the way out, but rewarded with a tailwind for 3 miles coming back.
The finishing straight is exceptionally long (must be almost 0.4 miles or so) and I mistimed my kick and died somewhat towards the end.
Coming through the finish I was told I was 3rd place F!
Not many PLS compared to usual. I wonder whether it’s the slightly later time (being peak marathon season) and it is quite expensive.

The results were previously reported by 'Race Reporter', but they did not tell the full story. First off I was accused of 'Driving Like Miss Daisy' on the way to Wilmslow by Kathryn Bradley. Once there we got stuck in a long queue for the car park. Surprisingly they were still charging £3 even though it was clear a backlog was building. Once parked it was a short jog to registration and another problem. They amazingly managed to run out of race numbers. They had to move onto the back-up numbers, but this was not a swift process. Then it was outside to see the very very long queues that had formed for the toilets. Nobody appeared to be attempting to organise the queues to make them move faster (they did at Tatton Park). Finally we made the race start. It all ran pretty smoothly after that, aside from the uphill finish. There was no post race T-shirt, but they had food and water, plus a big medal.
Stick with BTR next time Lawrence :sweat_smile:

A race around Lake Coniston on the roads. Weather was wet before the start but cleared up for the majority of the race. After a climb out of the village the rest of the route is undulating with a bit of a drag up to mile 12 beofre dropping down for a flat run into the village. A great event with brass band at start & finish and a slate coaster as a finishers trophy.
