As has been reported already, it was hot. The course was not however bone dry as I expected! First signs of trouble ahead came at an early bog that is normally drying out in May, but was comfortably ankle deep. The real bog after CP1, that never seems to dry out, would not have been out of place at Birchwood XC. It was close to knee deep. The latter fields were dry however. I was beginning to think how good it was to not have nettles this year, but one ungardened section made-up for the rest of the 34 miles with a half a mile nettle sting gauntlet (perhaps only 100 yards; it was hard).

On to the finish and the scouts were there again to provide tea, coffee, and water to the sea of dehydrated runners. St John's Ambulance tendered to some scratches and injured limbs. Martina Rice may have got some treatment here as unfortunately she injured her leg and retired 5 miles from the finish after doing a few additional miles in Delamere forest.
