The race has grown a lot in popularity since its inception back in 2008. I was slightly late to the party, first completing it in 2011. It was falsely advertised as 105 miles back then, but GPS watches now show it's slightly shorter.

So at 18:00 on Friday I lined up this year in the middle of an 800 strong pack looking to set the record straight after failing to finish last year. My mate also promised me an overpriced pint if I just finished this time. My ego was tested!

I started out slowly, but quickly worked through the field and surprisingly found I was around top 10; then the wheels seemingly fell off! After little more than 30 miles I was the one everyone passed with ease. A few asked if I was ok as I plugged away. I kept time at check points down, and on a positive was eating fine; and feeling ok aside from being slow.

As the second day wore on, the rain came down, then sun came out. I started passing runners whose legs had fallen off metaphorically writing. I picked up a Liverpool buddy runner, who's unbelievably thinking of joining Mosley Hill, for the last 30 miles. I left him on the last climb because he said he's thinking of joining Mosley Hill! At the finish I got my overpriced pint.
