Wirral Seaside Run - June 20th (results just published)
21:25 Russell Burnham
26:30 Marie Motley
I'm very impressed with the organisers of the Wirral Seaside Run - they know in advance what time runners are going to achieve and get the results out before the race! No need to turn out to run, brilliant! Not sure that PLS 10k Race C'ttee can match that.
Didn't realise that Parkrun (is it just Princes Parkrun or any Parkrun?) now counts in Club Championship. Did the rules get changed at the AGM this week, or has something else happened which I have missed?
Sorry Tim, I meant May. Let's hope the Race C'ttee can match the turn out of the very first Port Sunlight 10K!
I look forward to clarification from the C'ttee whether parkrun counts or not towards the Championships. According to Mal it did as long as runners wore a PLS vest.
It makes sense that Princes Parkrun should count for the club championship given that:
1. the course has a course measurement certificate (although it might be advisable for the certificate to be renewed and/or for the course to be remeasured each year which is what Races under UKA Rules have to do),
2. Princes Parkrun is now organised by the club albeit as a joint venture with Liverpool Running Bugs,
3. Princes Parkrun is now the official PLS Saturday training session.
However I'm not sure that it can currently count because of the wording of the Club Constitution/Rules. But it would be a relatively easy thing to get the Rules changed - the Constitution sets out the procedure. Its a pity the opportunity was not taken at the recent AGM to get the Rules changed. Perhaps the Committee would like to promote such a change by calling an EGM for that purpose?

Wet & wild!
I don't think the course needs to be re-measured unless the course changes.
Princes parkrun is entirely separate from Penny Lane Striders but is blessed by the amazing number of Striders who give up their time each week to volunteer. It is organised by myself, Mike and Shane with help from Marie, Emma, Eamonn, Paul, Rachel to name but a few. Liverpool Running Bugs (now Knowsley Harriers AC) have nothing to do with the current running of parkrun and haven't been since the start of the year.
The beauty of parkrun is that it is club neutral and all are welcome to participate. We try to promote running clubs and local races.
The amazing thing having so many Striders involved (both running and volunteering) is that the club is shown in a very good light to the local running community and consequenly we are consistently attracting new members to the club. PLS runners wearing our vest in parkrun encourages 'clubless' runners to believe they are good enough to run with us.
Princes parkrun is not the official PLS Saturday training session as far as I know.
I agree the biggest bar in the way of parkrun being recognised as a race is that it is not held under UKA rules. However neither is the Tunnel 10K which I believe is part of the 10K Championships.
As you say the course is accurately measured and certified. Out timing is also consistantly accurate within a second. We time runners both manually by stopwatch and automatically with a time clicker. We also name runners in the manual results as a safeguard. Interesting there is rarely a difference between the two timing systems at the end of an event. I personally do the results and upload them to parkrun every week. I believe our results accuracy would compare favourably when compared to the Mystery 5K.
I'd actually be surprised if any strider held their pb at Princes parkrun as it isn't the fastest of courses.
It would be a shame for Princes parkrun and parkruns in the future not to be counted in the Championships because they are well attended by Striders. They are also free - some Striders may not be able to afford for example to partake in the 10K Championships.
The next step is for the committee to give a formal ruling so everyone is clear on the situation.
Hmmm Not sure if the Princess Park was to be in the Club Series or whether it was just allowable for the 5km Season best Times (is there a difference?!). I know I have a 22:28 on ParkRun and ran in Vest - as that was when Mal (?) mentioned that Vested Times could count. Again - I think for Season rather than series..?
Birkenhead 5 mile was also a new PB for me
Kinda gutted to finish so far down the field but that was a really fast field on that night!
just quoting from what appears to be an official Penny Lane Striders printed leaflet which I saw this week:
"Together with Running Bugs we organise the weekly park run in Princes Park..."
"Training Nights:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.45pm @ Garston Lifestyles,
Saturdays Princes Parkrun Free 5k run at 9am"
Id second Russell's comments on this one, it needs resolving one way or the other asap.
That leaflet is out of date and should not be in circulation as it is no longer factually correct.
A full discussion was held over this on Wednesday night at the AGM were the confusion was fully explained, for info see club Sec for minuets.

The race was wet, with poor visibility, and I took a slightly longer route; all contributed to a slower time than I did 3 years ago. It is a classic course and I am pleased it was not cancelled yesterday.

Well done all.
You're too modest, Lawrence. The Welsh 1000 (even the so-called shorter variant) is a prestigous event and to win that race is a fantastic achievement, so well done!
Is all this racing leading up to another crack at the Lakeland 100M, or possibly even an attempt at the Bob Graham Round?
A couple of track results to report:

James McNally 9:05
Wirral Endurance Races 1 Mile:
