Re: Summer Bike Ride

Thanks Russ,

It's a straight forward route mainly off road except for the bit where we cut through West Kirby down to Hoylake and then it's back off road and along the beach front.
You don't have to be a fantastic cyclist ( I can do it) which speaks for it's self !
It's worth giving it a try.

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Thanks Eunice, I'm not a fantastic cyclist either and it sounds like a nice day out mostly away from traffic.

I was trying to figure out whether it was appropriate to bring children. Or a child singular (and a bit impatient!)

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Yes Count me in for this please Eunice.I will start @ Otterspool as I live near there. Let me know further details nearer the time.

Thanks

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Sounds great Eunice.. I'm in!

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Working weekends sometimes ****** me right off!

And in this instance so does not having a bike!

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Hey, Eunice, how about doing it the other way round this yr? We could all meet at Pier Head ready to get the 1st ferry which leaves at 9.15am, it goes straight across without doing the river cruise thing.
There's a new Starbucks in New Brighton for coffee stop. Then may be BJs cafe in Thursaston (nr. caravan site) for lunch?
When we get to Hooton we get a little well earned rest on the train back to James St.

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Hi Gilly,

Ta v much that's a cracking suggestion, I think the crew will deffo be up for the other way around. Only the weather to sort now guys, I've put an order in for plenty of sunshine !

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Eunice for there to be sunshine all it needs is for you to turn up. Having said all that unfortunately I won't be able to make it, having made previous arrangements to eat pies.

Hope you all have a great day, whenever I've done this I've really enjoyed it.

Oonagh I am sure the pace was suitable for children and/or occasional cyclists. There are always plenty of stops, too.

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Thanks Eunice (and thanks Cristina)

Might be a bit far for my little one on this occasion, but I'll bear it in mind for next year.

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Gutted, would have loved to have come but I have friends coming to stay, whose main interest is cider and not cycling. If this is an annual event I will definitely keep the Sunday free for next year. Or perhaps we could arrange another jaunt in September time when the British summer now seems to be kicking in?

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Sorry to hear some people have plans - but there's always next time.

Talking of September - the 9th is when we hope to have the BBQ at APH. I will put all the details out next month.
Oonagh if you are available I think your little girl will have a better time at this get together than the bike ride and Sue, I am sure you will see a few striders who can also demonstrate an intrest in cider and beer down at the barbie mate !

Re: Summer Bike Ride

I'm sure of it too Eunice. You organised a brilliantly family friendly barbecue last year

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Hi, wasn't at club on Thursday, so don't know wot the final arrangements for the bike ride are.

Are we still meeting at 9am Sunday at Pier Head ticket office to get tickets for 9.15 am ferry?

Gill

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Unless we hear otherwise from Eunice, I suggest that we meet at Pier Head Ferry Terminal at 9am tomorrow for the 9:15am ferry sailing to the Wirral, as suggested by Gill.

The cheapest option is to get a "saveaway" all areas ticket - £4.70 for travel by ferry, train and bus all day across the Merseyside area. You can buy them at railway stations but I don't think you can buy them at the ferry terminal so I suggest that you buy one at James Street station on the way down to the Pier Head. Once you have your saveaway ticket, you'll need to go into the ticket office at the ferry terminal and they will give you a ferry ticket for boarding when you show the saveway ticket. So please allow time if you want the cheap ticket ! (Otherwise, you can pay standard single ferry fare of £4.70 at ferry terminal and return rail fare of £3.45).

For anyone who's not done the PLS bike ride before - we follow the coastal route around the Wirral - mostly on cycle paths (the promenade from Seacombe to Hoylake and then the Wirral Way from West Kirby to Hooton station). We usually have 2 or 3 refreshment stops, it is about 25 miles at a leisurely pace and we are usually back in Liverpool about 4pm.

The weather forecast is good for tomorrow - mainly sunny & up to 23C so remember the suntan oil & sunglasses "

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Thanks Marie,
Actually, I think you can purchase Saveaway tickets from the ferry terminal (we did a couple of months ago)
See ya 2morrow

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Cheers Marie/Gill.

Just to add - most newsagents also sell Savaways.

I have no doubt a crackin day will be had by all, and I am sure Bradley Wiggins success will spur us on!

Catch you in the morning guys ..........

Re: Summer Bike Ride

Thanks for a great day,and you got the sun to shine.
Thanks again Dave
