adidas Thunder Run

This weekend 15 Penny Lane Striders organised by Andrew Leslie will be taking part in a 24 hour race called Thunder Run. This is a 'challenging' off-road race in Canton Park, Derbyshire. Starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday and finishing at 12 p.m. Sunday, runners will have 24 hours to run as many laps of a 10K course as possible. Only one runner can run the course at a time and must complete a full lap before handing over. The team with the most laps completed when the clock stops after 24hrs will win. Runners can stay on-site with free camping, toilets, showers and canteen provided. Runners are time chipped and must wear a headtorch when running at night.

Last year 5 runners (Colin, Marc V, Paul B, Andrew L, Russell) from PLS took part running 23 laps in 21:30 coming 21st out of 33 in the Male 5 category. Everyone ran 5 laps except Russell who cried off with a cold!

This year we have entered 3 mixed teams of 5 runners and are hoping to run 5 laps each (50K!).

Team (1) Emma, Mal, Marc, Andrew and Richie
Team (2) Cristina, Dean, Mitch, Paul and Eamonn
Team (3) Tarja, Col, John, Russ and Mike

Accompanying the team Karen Grady will be providing sports-massage and Rachel Rick will be helping to organise us.

We hope to update you throughout the weekend (3G permitting) on the PLS Facebook page and on the forum.

COME ON PLS!!!

What a fantastic race! Once again Penny Lane Striders did themselves proud and gave it their all with some impressive lap times. Most teams managed 25 laps running a total of 155 miles! In true PLS style we looked after each other. All smiles despite the gruelling course and tiredness setting in. When we were not cheering ourselves we supported our fellow runners in the true spirit of running.

What a superb event this was!
Thanks to the entire team PLS (=runners+supporters) for making this event so much fun and to Andrew Leslie for organising the entries and logistics. Weather gods were also favourable to us

Highly recommend this event to anyone who rather runs off tarmac Superb running on grass fields, paths, hills and in the woods.

Re: adidas Thunder Run

Fantastic event! Congratulations to everyone who ran, and a big thank you to Rachel and Karen for coming along to support us. Being the last PLS runner home was an honour, as well as a good laugh:

If you've seen and enjoyed the Thunder Run pictures and banter both here and on Facebook, all I can say is GET INVOLVED NEXT YEAR!!! It doesn't matter what group you run in, who you know or don't know at the club, or if you've never run off-road before: being part of this event is really something special and despite the pain, mud, sunburn and sleep deprivation, I’d recommend it to anyone…

Re: adidas Thunder Run

Well said John, sums it up perfect!
