Last race in the xc Sunday League at Birchwood Park! We're on the home straight now, let's make it a good one!

Liz Whitfield from Spectrum Striders sent along some handy info:

Subject to numbers, there will be an 800m race around the playing field for kids aged 4 to about 11 years. The kids get a few sweets
and a drink at the end. Parents are encouraged to run alongside their little ones. Please let us know (via your x/c secretary) if your
kids want to run so that we have enough kids prizes.

Race venue
Ranger Centre, Birchwood Forest Park, off Moss Gate, Birchwood, Warrington. (Satnav users: the venue has no postcode.)
There are basic changing rooms, showers & toilets at the Ranger Centre; a bit limited as they are only meant for two football teams.

Directions
The Forest Park is a little under 1 mile from M62 J11.

From the J11 roundabout, go down the A574, Birchwood Way.

After a little over ½ mile, at the first roundabout take the first exit (left) onto Moss Gate.

After about 300 yards, turn right at the roundabout into the Birchwood Forest Park public car park.

Race route
The course is the one used since 2008. The four lap route is a total of 5.16 miles (8.3k), as measured by GPS. The course is on grass
and wooded trails, and crosses tarmac footpaths in several places. The bunkers are quite steep-sided and it is often wet and muddy.
Studded footwear or cross country spikes are usually best. Guests are accepted by prior arrangement with the host club.

Refreshments
The venue for refreshments is about 2 miles away at Birchwood Community High School, Brock Road, WA3 7PT.
(The High School is on the opposite side of the Birchwood Shopping Centre from the start of the Birchwood 10k.)
Directions to the High School:

At the roundabout at the exit from the Forest Park car park, turn left

At the next roundabout. turn left onto Birchwood Way

At the next roundabout straight on (there is a sculpture in centre of roundabout)

At the big roundabout turn left

At the roundabout (with the BP garage) turn right

At the next roundabout straight on

After the ASDA petrol station turn next left

There is some parking in the High School car park.

If this is full, please don’t park on the road. Use one of the Birchwood Shopping Centre car parks.

Enter the School via the community entrance, from the car park round the left side.

Just a gentle reminder - go clean your spikes, or get yourself sorted out with wellies, which the automatic spellchecker just attempted to "correct" with willies. The mind boggles.

I have enough chocolates left in the xc tub to challenge even Lyndon, and he's not even going to be there!
