Liverpool’s cycle hire scheme will shortly be coming to the city centre. Bikes will be available across Liverpool from on-street bike stations. Simply pay an annual membership fee which allows you to take a bike from any station, ride it where you like, then take it back to any station, ready for the next person to use. No booking needed and it’s self-service – just turn up and go! The bikes are best for short journeys – using the bikes will be free to members to use for the first half hour.

hows about, the dont spend money on a load of bikes until you have sorted out safe routes to youse them scheme? do you reckon they wil go for that cris?
I'm a great believer that the more people on the roads (rather than riding on the pavements) the safer it'll be to bike it. We're just a bit backwards here in that respect, to be honest short of beating motorists with a stick or putting spikes on the edge of cycle lanes I'm not sure what the council could do.
I personally favour the spikes. Also small explosive charges for cars that park on the bike section at traffic lights. Nothing too destructive, you know, just enough to blow all tyres ahead of the line.
