It was a sunny evening. They were selling pints at the finish in the pub. I won a box of fruit, as did Cristina.

Selling pints??? In a pub??? Was there a melon in your fruit box because you're twisting mine with this craziness???

There was also a cake stand outside the school. I did not try a cake so I cannot comment on their quality.

Andy would you believe there WAS a melon in my fruitbox. Also tomatoes. They are very nice, ate some earlier. And carrots. Took them to the Thunder run. I gave the cauliflower and some onions to Frank Martin cos he ran really hard so that I couldn't catch him and I thought he would need to refuel after all that effort, even though he kicked my pint over when I went to get the box. I suppose I shouldn't have put it on the floor. I also took the melon to the thunder run but it's come back with me.

Speaking of the Thunder run...

...Let me introduce you to the most amazing team in the 5F category (apart perhaps from the 10 that finished better than us out of a total of 27 but I've seen them and trust me we were far cooler and had better hats):

Actually all of us ran all or part of the last lap cos that's how we roll. But that's not all!

Clare managed to run day and night despite a nasty stomach bug, Claire had to wake herself up in the middle of the night cos I didn't and somehow kept her make up on and her hair in immaculate condition in the afternoon when it was so hot that I was ready to dive into the stagnant pond 2Km into the course. Myka ran four splendid laps in between bizarre conversations involving batteries (I didn't catch a lot of that because I was busy eating and at one point freeing Lyndon who'd got his head stuck in the zip of his tent) and trying to put on Tarja's Ironman clothing. Tarja had to be almost restrained at the end because she wanted to go round again when there was no way we were going to outrun the sweeper truck. I had a most splendid hat that I kept specially for the last lap.

There was cake, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, special recipe energy balls with a perhaps too high a nut to date ratio, tuna, carrots, hummous, berries, banana and almond butter wraps and figs. I don't know how we found the time to run. Honestly, you had to be there Nige but I bet now it almost feels like you were.

had to get me mum to give it a good yank
so embarrassing (but me mum never told anyone)
till this day I still bare the mental scarring
