It was a wet morning, but the rain was not too bad for the duration of the race. The turn around point was very slippery. There were free bottles of water at the end of the race for competitors, which is good given that the race is free to enter. I did see the current Team PLS captain, Dale Higham, running; he finished with Chris Lee.

This is described as a "A good introductory race for first-time fell runners". I would tend to agree since I never fell over (almost a given whenever I try one of these things) and only swore 2 or 3 times. The race also finishes uphill which is great because you get to catch lots of the blighters that fly past you on the way down. An interesting twist this year is that we had to be detoured around some beehives and a couple of the people at the very back got stung. A good incentive to leg it up the first hill as well if you ask me.
Lawrence won a bottle of wine, I got a chocolate orange and Frank the pleasure of my witty repartee there and back. It was a lovely sunny evening and the bees are now reported to have calmed down some.
Missed off the Princes parkrun results! Came in at 45:52. I was the nominated last runner though! Really good experience if anyone wants to try it any time and does mean the marshals know they can stand down without wondering whether there's anyone still out.

A steady run follow by a long run together along the Sandstone Trail to round off to 2 hours run in total.
Nice, warm and sunny
We had hot chocolate, coffee and cakes afterwards in the cafe
Were do these runs start from tony-is it the visitor centre at 9.00 ?
Start just down the path from the visitor centre by the overspill car park at 9am Graham. The course is basically one lap of the lake and back. Try it!

Oh, et tu, Stato. I was looking forward to reporting on the Mystery results, especially since we appeared to have acquired a Greg KOCKING - surely a name fitting for an episode of Qi. I have so few pleasures left in my life. Also there was no buffet and a dog nearly peed on my bag.
Not the quickest day at Birchwood, blustery conditions and a new first 3k of the course, which was on pretty narrow paths. A rather fetching pink bath towel added to the collection and flowers for the ladies (I'm not sure why they don't bother giving any to the men as I'd have definitely earned brownie points if I'd have taken flowers home). Well done all (I'm not aware of any PBs but great effort if there were!)

It was dry conditions underfoot and it was surprisingly warm given the colour of the clouds. They had a lot of water stations on the route, which is an improvement from previous years. The bog section was still wet.

This is a memorial race for a chap called Robbie Webster who used to run for Helsby. To confuse matters another bloke with the same name from another club turned up to run last Wednesday. The race is all up and around Frodsham hill and is a reasonably tough exercise but technically very easy so next year put this one in your diary.
The price includes sandwiches and very nice home made cakes back at the Helsby club house (just think Helsby Half start/finish car park). Prize giving was a rather chaotic affair, during which I was 2nd woman for a good five minutes or so, or at least until the rightful owner of 2nd place and the first vet trophy was identified. I actually finished 4th but I got first L40 so thankfully I didn't have to give back the wine

Special mention to Debi who knocked almost 4 minutes off her parkrun PB. Nice work!
Only 156 finishers this yr as it was raining & visibilty was poor. Obviously the reason for no Penny Lane men turning up! (Apart from Tony Man who got most of the way there but had to turn back because of heavy traffic to make sure he got to work on time)
Only realised I was approaching the summit when I saw silhouettes of runners in front of me heading off down the hill to my right. The previous day you could see the fort on the top quite clearly from Camphill!

Changed course from last year, one lap 2 mile then 6 mile then 5.1 mile.
Ran opposite way from last year and into the wind along the lower prom.
No chip timing. Effectively 4 water stations. No Cows or other farm animals.
Illuminations same as last year.

We don't know who Mathew is, possibly one of the false names. This time none of us won any vegetables, mostly due to the hordes of proper runners who turned up, ran faster than us and took all the prizes. 223 ran.
This is now 2-2 in the Martin-Puccini Summer Smackdown. I may well retire from this competition while the going is good.
