The weather was overcast and it started to rain towards the end/middle of the race. There was water at the finish, but no cake.

Lake District Mountain Trial
Classic Course - 18.7miles 6640ft*

I was 11th man (the prizes go up to 10) which indicates I was beaten by a girl. I did get a price for first Youth Hostel member who had not already won a prize.

*The course was probably nearer 25 miles with an extra 3000ft of climbing or so.

The Lake District Mountain Trial is a navigation based event. The choice of route can make a big difference to the overall time. Generally the shorter route involves more climbing. The routes that competitors took can be seen; although the link is not there yet, but I expect it will be:

Tough Mudder North West at Malpas, Cheshire, Sunday 14th September

Approx 3hrs 15mins for myself and Bob Astley

11.6 miles of cross country running, mud, obstacles, water, ice, electric shocks and fear! Not everyone's cup of tea but definitely worth doing if you fancy something different and like big challenges and teamwork. Decent food stalls at the finish area and also a great beer tent :)
