The weather was overcast and it started to rain towards the end/middle of the race. There was water at the finish, but no cake.

It was good conditions (not too muddy, but some mud to keep the interest there). They gave out black T-shirts and Chia food. 10k runners got a pink T-shirt.

Lake District Mountain Trial
Classic Course - 18.7miles 6640ft*
12th Lawrence Eccles 5:58:45
I was 11th man (the prizes go up to 10) which indicates I was beaten by a girl. I did get a price for first Youth Hostel member who had not already won a prize.
*The course was probably nearer 25 miles with an extra 3000ft of climbing or so.
The Lake District Mountain Trial is a navigation based event. The choice of route can make a big difference to the overall time. Generally the shorter route involves more climbing. The routes that competitors took can be seen; although the link is not there yet, but I expect it will be:

Excellent Race as usual with good organisation, good facilities, a flat course and the bonus of nice weather this year - Ideal conditions in fact. Highly recommended.

Tough Mudder North West at Malpas, Cheshire, Sunday 14th September
Approx 3hrs 15mins for myself and Bob Astley
11.6 miles of cross country running, mud, obstacles, water, ice, electric shocks and fear! Not everyone's cup of tea but definitely worth doing if you fancy something different and like big challenges and teamwork. Decent food stalls at the finish area and also a great beer tent :)
Did they have a delayed stop button on their watches for Thurstaston, 8 seconds added on my time there! Not sure how I can get pipped on the line yet be 5 seconds slower than the othe guy!! Ha ha

Plus guest appearance (non-running) from no less than the Mayor of St Helens, decked out in regulation ceremonial bling.
Great city and a good course (slightly undulating) taking in the marina, fjord, opera house, botanical gardens and the royal palace with a noisy waterfront finish.

Two other male PLS runners ran but due to the onset of senility, I am afraid that I can not remember their full names (even though they are in my training group! ) and the official results do not include their PLS details. Sorry guys. Feel free to update as necessary.

*may change as timers have robbed Andy of five seconds by giving him identical gun and chip times
Cramp stopped John Connolly from getting round on an undulating course although some of them undulations felt suspiciously like hills to me. I am sure Lawrence Eccles would disagree on that
