Over the past few days, I have watched two 1940s horror movies, RETURN OF THE APE MAN and CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN.
CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN, made by Universal Pictures, features Aquanetta in the title role and Ray Corrigan as her previous self, Cheela. In it, an ape is made into a human being by a man scientist, but she reverts back to her old self at the end of the movie.
RETURN OF THE APE MAN, made by Monogram, is infamous as the picture in which the great George Zucco is billed third (over Frank Moran, the actor who actually portrays the Ape Man in the finished film) even though he does not actually appear except in the scene where the Ape Man has just been thawed out. (My usually reliable monster guide, THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MONSTERS, was wrong on that one.)
One thing still bothers me, though: Is CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN in the public domain or not?
