The other day I happened to learn of the passing of Miss Louise Henry, one of our stalwart Chan actresses. She died on Dec. 12, 2011 in her hometown of Syracuse, NY.
Her last movie was "Charlie Chan in Reno", where she played the less than likable murder victim Mrs. Bently. She also played the murder victim in "Broadway".
Another movie that I really liked her in was a Philo Vance, "The Casino Murder Case". Unfortunately she was the first victim in that movie, too, but she sang and danced around so much that she made a lot of her screen time.
She only made about 20 movies, and returned home to Syracuse, not renewing her contract. I sometimes wonder what was really behind her decision.
I live near Syracuse, and I knew that Louise Henry was originally from our city. I never knew that Louise Henry returned here in 1939 and was living here in town. She is not in the phone directory, either with her real name or stage name, and her obituary was not in the Syracuse newspapers. This topic is also being discussed on Dr. Cream's site, and there is a link to a nice article about Louise Henry, too.
