One of my goals in life was to collect all of CC's wise sayings, merely because my grandfather had a vaudeville act in with Sidney Toler in New York. At least this is the story I was told. Supposedly my gradfather (Roland Carey), an I rish tenor, didn't think Toler was needed in the act, so they split up. Toler became the famous Chinese detective and Carey ended up running a food wagon.
Thank you for sharing the information about your grandfather's stage work with Sidney Toler. I suspect his story was the truth from his perspective. So often those who rise to stardom later in life (Toler took on the Chan role at age 65)might seem as anything but during their early years.

Thank you, again, Paul, for sharing about your grandfather's experience with one of the Charlie Chans!
